Why the hate for Alex Kurtzman?

Yes. On the Enterprise-D bridge. :)

And, heck, even that felt too dim! Not that you couldn't see or anything, but if you're going to go to all that trouble to recreate every single detail of the bridge, why not light it so that it looks authentically like the bridge from TNG?

"25 percent differenttttttttt!"

Which almost makes sense; of all the meticulous detail that went into its construction, the lighting was definitely the one thing that felt off - the same monotonous tone that's great if you're into sepia tone circa 1896 or something*. The wall paint's color was close enough that it's not worth bring pedantic about-- I know, I know, it's really me saying that...

In-universe, it's an easy one: The 7000k light bulbs wouldn't arrive until Tuesday so the 3000k ones had to do.

* Granted, Sepia tone was popular back in the day because it (a) added artistic flair as opposed to true b/w, and (b) the toning added longevity to the film stock in the process. Yep, a warm glow is cool! :D

allegedly the reason the Stargazer/Titan bridge was so dark was because they tried using lighting built into the set along side the stage lights, but the set lights turned out too dark.

Doesn't explain the Ent-D bridge tho

The sad part is when the day does come and Kurtzman steps down from running Star Trek (likely of his own accord) all these blowhards are going to be all "SEE? I told you this would happen!"
Heads will roll when this happens. The realization he's finally gone will cause some to become downright catatonic. I know I'll shed some tears knowing those poor people will be forever stuck.

I just don’t think the director of photography was competent tbh.

Or just doing what the producer wanted. Could be a lot of possibilities. It still and arguably often looked like what the replicated apple was made from, but the visuals are invariably subjective to the audiences and everything being dark and edgy can be trendy.

Bro, do you even Star Trek? The franchise that gets kudos for having people of color in the cast (TOS), a blind guy (TNG), a black captain (DS9) and a woman captain (VOY). The one that uses thinly veiled allegory to address contemporary issues? The one with the concept of Infinite Diversity In Infinite Combinations?

Seriously. Bro, do you even Star Trek?

There's also the black woman Captain (Disco).

I am quite sick of people rolling out this argument, as though the fact that Trek has always done political and social commentary, and has always leans liberal, means that it's all always been the same and any complaints about NuTrek's approach are invalid, neither of which are true. The way TOS or TNG handled social commentary, and the way Discovery handled it, are two different universes.

And believe it or not, yes, there are many conservative fans of Star Trek and always have been, and being a liberal is not a requirement for enjoying Trek.

This is why Alex Kurtzman is where he is. The money is flowing in to Paramount’s coffers.

Is there a way to read this without shelling out cash? The only wrap I usually enjoy is a crunchwrap and to see the analytics I'll have to get THEIR products so it's kinda tugging me in both ways in order to see how valid it all is.

Yes, I've known a few. And no it's not required to be a liberal to enjoy it. NuTreks approach to commentary is not all that different than OldTrek. Culber, Stamets and Adira's presence is no different than Sulu and Uhura or even Chekov. These people exist and here they are on our futuristic spaceship. It can be subtle as "A Private Litttle War" or as obvious as "Let This Be Your Last Battlefield." The messages of inclusion and acceptance of things/people/ideas that are different are part of both eras. Very much in the same "universe."

Parrot Analytics are the one's making the claim on revenue. Based on some algorithm. So, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Across all platforms, “Star Trek” films have generated $198.6 million globally in subscriber revenue from Q1 2020 – Q3 2024, underscoring the fact that “Star Trek” is a TV series-driven franchise. This might temper the expectations for any direct financial impact that a streaming release movie like “Section 31 ” would have for Paramount+.

They say the best time to plant a tree was fifteen years ago.

The second best time is Now.

Streaming movies is P+ planting a seed for 5-10 years from now.

I'm more conservative yet find Discovery (or many of Trek's commentary) completely inoffensive. With Discovery they're about 15 years behind the times or so so it's an easy pass.

But, yeah, in the franchise of "black on one side, white in the other" aliens beating over the head about racism, or TNG preaching on drugs, religion and the evil of money, and on and on I think newer Trek is doing well.

Hell, I thought Into Darkness was downright beautiful in its timeliness.

Parrot Analytics Streaming Economics System shows how the long running Star Trek franchise has been a reliable money maker not only for Paramount+ but other streaming platforms around the globe

Parrot Analytics metrics are absurd.

According to Parrot Analytics, the canceled Star Trek Prodigy show was one of the most in-demand TV shows in the US.
Not just "one of the most in-demand animated shows" no, "one of the most in-demand TV shows".

Parrot Analytics said that Prodigy had a higher "demand" than Taylor Sheridan shows.

Ridiculous.

In 2018 they said that Star Trek Discovery was the most popular streaming show, when CBS All Access (now Paramount+) had less than 2.5 million subscribers.
