Why do they trust Eli so much? (Spoilers)

On a side note, something interesting would be if the actor for Eli starts loosing weight and how the rest of the charaters on the show would react to a change in body type
That should be a whole different thread: "How can Eli stay fat on military emergency rations alone".

Honestly, I've been half-expecting him to pull a Daniel Jackson, if the show goes long enough. Remember how the skinny nerd ended up having bigger muscles than Teal'c by season seven?

Maybe he'll develop a taste for the "sweet potato" and that'll keep him fat.

Maybe the "sweet potato" makes everyone fat. They could do the BSG thing and have the actors wear fat suits.

^Yeah should the SGU screw up that won't make him happy, it will also, I believe, cut off any link he has to Earth.

We've already seen him act in a way that seems contrary to the nice guy image, he seemed to take a lot of delight in hightening Scott's depression over his kid with the stripper mom after all.

I can't see him going majorly evil, but he could end up being a lot like Rush by being amoral rather than bad.

he's a young man full of frustration, frustration leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to the dark side

No, hate leads to suffering. You can't have the dark side without suffering, mouhahaha... hmmm.. don't mind me, I'm just passing by...:shifty:

It just hit me with last week's episode. The military do not trust anybody at all. We can understand why they do not trust Rush, but they generally don't trust anyone else either. Expect Eli. They gave him a gun on the desert planet, they trusted him to review Rush's work and even spy on him and now Young entrusted him with the very dark secret that it was Rush who framed him (and I think he intelligent enough to make 2+2=Young left Rush on the planet voluntarily). Not even Scott knows this. So why is that? He's a kid playing games. Who cares if he's an untapped potenial genius, he a freaking overgrown teenager. Don't get me wrong, I kinda like the guy, I can even relate to him but it does make me wonder why do the all of ther others trust him so much and give him so much responsabilities? What do you think?

Because he is military, sort of like a ROTC graduate is an Officer before he goes to his Officer Basic Course or a direct commisioned doctor. He is the only civilian we have seen be armed? Why? Because he is King David, King Arthur, the Last Starfighter. While he hasn't gone through Basic Combat Training and earned the right to be called a Marine he has passed the Excaliber test in lieu of Basic which is more then the rest of the scientific and political staff aboard Destiny have done.

^^
True, but that was partially motivated by the actor's (Michael Shanks) wishes. It's also why he got his hair cut at the end of season two, IIRC.

And the fact that it made sense. Daniel not changing at all after going on all these missions wouldn't.

It's still a bit of a leap for Daneil Jackson to go from the person he was in the movie and the first two seasons (a nerdy, physically diminutive scientist), to the buff action hero of later years.

McKay, in comparsion, learned how to handle a weapon, but he never became a buff action hero.

To be fair, McKay didn't attract nearly the amount of off-world tail Daniel got, so had less reason to keep in shape.

By the by, does anyone else think it's weird that the two characters on SG-1 that got laid by a romance of the week the most often were Teal'c and Daniel, the two who were married? The most disturbing probably being when Daniel slept with the youthified and amnesiac space-lady version of Dr. Mengele the episode after Sha're died.

Well Teal'c also said things like "woman be silent" to his wife so SG-1 perhaps has a non PC take on what a good marriage is ;)

That sentence reminded me of a picture I saw once where Teal'c was staring with his eyebrow raised with the caption "I would indeed hit it, Daniel Jackson."

Jackson's charater was also motivated by the search for his wife, then vengance,, I'd buff up a bit, too

Major difference in temperament between McKay and Daniel.
