Why do they trust Eli so much? (Spoilers)

It just hit me with last week's episode. The military do not trust anybody at all. We can understand why they do not trust Rush, but they generally don't trust anyone else either. Expect Eli. They gave him a gun on the desert planet, they trusted him to review Rush's work and even spy on him and now Young entrusted him with the very dark secret that it was Rush who framed him (and I think he intelligent enough to make 2+2=Young left Rush on the planet voluntarily). Not even Scott knows this. So why is that? He's a kid playing games. Who cares if he's an untapped potenial genius, he a freaking overgrown teenager. Don't get me wrong, I kinda like the guy, I can even relate to him but it does make me wonder why do the all of ther others trust him so much and give him so much responsabilities? What do you think?

I think it's a reaction to Rush. They wanted to feel like they had someone trustworthy who could speak Rush's language, and Eli was the only real option available.

Because he's one of the few that doesn't have a personal agenda on the ship, it seems. He's just a regular guy, and people like regular guys.

oh, I have a feeling that Eli will end up being the darkest, most insane bastard on the show at some point

It may be a case that he's also seen to be more malleable than everyone else there. Everyone else had been on the Icarus base for at least a while, and also maybe working on the Stargate program in general for longer, so they're already entrenched in whatever factions there are. Eli, on the other hand, is completely new to everything, and thus more open to possible manipulation.

He's a regular joe to use such a term and has no real agenda. His innocence to everything gives him a unique POV that could be handy and he doesn't come off as a bastard like Rush.

I like the fact that everyone trusts Eli and wants him on their side. Finally a character we can all trust who doesn't have some agenda. A normal kinda guy, who sees the wonder of exploring space.

I don't think it's so much that they trust him, but rather they're bitching him around. The military personel are bitching him around because they bitch around all the other civilians. While, the scientists are bitching him around because they're sick of being bitched around by the military, and they take their frustrations out on Eli.

But that's it, they don't bitch him around like they do the others. They deal with him like he's one of them, even more in this case. Only him knows that it's Rush that tried to frame Young and he likely figured out that Young left him to die. And Young continues to trust him to do his will by erasing all traces. He can be manipulated, yes, but that brings even more of an issue. If he can be so easily manipulated, then you must plan that he could be manipulated by someone else to reveal your secrets.

If they build up to this right, that would be cool. Not some "ooh a bad guy took over his body" type thing, either.

So, under what scenarios would Eli become EVIL?

And does anyone else doubt that Rush won't use that decrepit looking ship to leave wherever it is he's abandoned? Unless, Destiny decides to turn back for him.

The same way Anikan Skywalker should have been done.

He's a 'good' guy right now. Wants to do everything the right way - don't tell lies, keep everyone informed, don't step on toes.

Then you've got the girl he likes who's hooking up with someone else.

Then apply pressure.

Young "orders" him to 'hide' evidence.
He is now the top guy most likely to get them home.
Young and other scientists start pulling him in different directions - he's already lost faith in Young.
Rush returns.
...

eventually, there's bound to be an explosion.

Oh, please! The "turning" of Anakin Skywalker sucked bad! Lots to do with bad acting but the writting as well. IMO, the best "turning" i've seen was Hanibal Rising. Now that's messing with one's mind and turning him to have no knowledge of good or bad anymore.

Someone else will have to die, some he loves, like Chloe, for him to become engaged in avening it only to find is untimately the cause.

She-Douche will be the start of it, you can allready see it, logicaly, he will try a few times to kill the guy she's screwing, but his concience will stop him, until Lt. Douche crosses the line, and once Eli has had a taste of murder, give him an episode or two to run through the emotions, throw in a few tense situations that gives Eli total control of the ship, BAM, evil guy.

On a side note, something interesting would be if the actor for Eli starts loosing weight and how the rest of the charaters on the show would react to a change in body type

That should be a whole different thread: "How can Eli stay fat on military emergency rations alone".

I'm sorry, I thought I'd effectively conveyed my complete disdain for the turning of Anakin Skywalker.

But, I don't think anyone has to die for Eli to turn bad.

Honestly, I've been half-expecting him to pull a Daniel Jackson, if the show goes long enough. Remember how the skinny nerd ended up having bigger muscles than Teal'c by season seven?

^^
True, but that was partially motivated by the actor's (Michael Shanks) wishes. It's also why he got his hair cut at the end of season two, IIRC.
