It is what it is and I'll get nowhere complaining about it.
But Kirk's growth is excellent arc and growth is the reason the Kelvin films stand out to me. He isn't the Kirk that I knew from TOS. He had to grow and develop to become a leader.

I wonder if this Kirk ever develops a fondness for books. So far, he likes motorcycles and music instead.
