Why did Chakotay Choose to be with seven instead of janeway?

It makes one wonder if Janeway got her little revenges in on Chakotay for getting with a young woman, right under her nose ... and before her very eyes. Sending him on suicide missions, and so on ...

Or time travelling back 30 years to sidetrack the poor boy's bllissful marriage to the love of his life, during his first date?

The Janeways saved their lives. Not much revenge in that.

You know I always thought Chakotay was a bit older than Janeway he seemed a little out of his comfort zone with Seven, like he would never be able to actually laugh with her.

You know I've said this before but Seven and Harry had chemistry goin from the time seven joined-it might be kind of iffy with an Asian guy and blonde woman(how that's for subtle trailblazing) but it made sense and I think a date between them would have been far more lively and fun than C/7-no 7 and rock would have had more chemistry.

It was a terrible terrible idea-supposedly Beltran got in Braga's face and dared him to do it-I dunno seems dumb, and if Beltran felt so bad with the shaft his character got it seems counterintuitive to demand his character get in a relationship with the most well known(and arguably popular one) when there had been no onscreen evidence previous. Well except seven's hologram and the episode where Chakotay and Seven got stranded on that planet-but I mean really that's like some guy and girl in a study group in junior high-means absolutely nothing.

Just stupid stupid stupid-

I put nothing past her. I blame Q, though, really. True, Janeway didn't want him knocking her up, but still ... what having an ALL powerful, omnipotent being trying desperately to get in her pants must've done for her ego. So that everyone who lusts after her, now, is only following their natural instincts. Who's Chakotay, then - a mere mortal - to give up his crush on her? Everybody on the ship was aware of his aching ... his longing ... his yearning for her all these years. But no ... he had to rub it in, by getting with the ship's most titivated tart, bringing Janeway's cougarness into sharp relief. Oh, yes ... this insult demanded no less than making an example of Chakotay ... for ALL to see!

Wow, you do see people in pretty awful terms

Not people.

Fractals from Berman's brain.

People can be complex, Berman is just trying to sell soap.

If TwoFrakes was talking about people, then yes, that would be bad.

Although I'm almost positive that Seven initiated this relationship, so Chakotay's input on the issue was to accept or reject her interest. What would be telling, is what would have happened if he didn't want to "go there" if you remember what happened in Survival Instinct.

Seven is not a fan of being told "No".

No need to apologise. I am made of sterner stuff. But I appreciate the courtesy. I surely do. Now, that I've gotten personalised attention, acknowledgement and kudos, we can get back to talking about STAR TREK: Voyager, particularly as it pertains to Chakotay, Seven and Janeway ...

It's been suggested to me, before, that Kathryn represented a "dream" for Chakotay, one of those "wouldn't it be nice if it could work out between us" kind of things. Because it certainly didn't prevent him from procuring punani, whenever and wherever he could find it. But pipedreams never come true, so - outside of Voyager's desperate situation - it's a wonder why Chakotay held onto it, for as long as he did. She didn't want him. So ... what's with the books having married them, anyway? It's just fan service ... kind of insulting, really. It's like breaking the 4th Wall ...

They aren't married but their relationship development was a very rocky road, not Tom andB'Elanna rocky, but still rocky. It's not a case of them getting back to earth, Chakotay breaking up with Seven, just so he and Janeway can suddenly fall into each other's arms. It took several years.

Well, it's good to know, then, that the books didn't just force a Chakotay/Janeway romance to give fans what the show would not. I don't want to give the wrong impression, either, though. If Chakotay and Janeway couldn't keep their hands off of eachother for the entire television series' run, nobody would've been happier about it, than I. Chakotay's a favourite character of mine, he wanted Janeway as his woman ... and he got her! Good ... great! Fine. But she soundly and repeatedly rejected him on the show. I'm kind of amazed, really, that it didn't put him off. To hell with her, Chakotay ... you know? Snap out of it ...

Unfortunately without key dialog we're left to assume either way. (whether she blew him off or if they talked about it but we didn't get to see it play out)

I have a reputation as Chakotay's ultimate fan girl to defend here (In Germany we have a saying that roughly translates to: once you ruined your reputation you are free to do whatever pleases you - I am living up to that here ;)) so let me say this: I think the guy doesn't look half bad now for being over 60. Sure, he could lose a few pounds, but honestly, who couldn't?
Another "Chakotay's ultimate fan girl" here. You are absolutaly right- This guy looks great now with the dyed hair.
Why did he choose Seven instaed of Janeway? Why should he choose Janeway when she didn`t want him all over the years? Why should he choose Janeway when he can have Seven?

Chakotay needed a woman's Love, like any Man does. But he must be reasonable! A woman's rejection may sting, at first ... but it's also an opportunity. Some of God's Greatest Gifts are Unanswered Prayers. Janeway always struck me as though she'd probably be a Dead Fish in the ol' proverbial sack. It's been pointed out to me that Seven of Nine would do no better. That she's rather like a walking computer circuit. I don't know. Seska, though ... she's the kinda woman who'd make Chakotay late for work, every morning. She's just the kind ... I don't know. Why couldn't Kellin stick around, you know? She was beautiful & good for him ...
