Who's Your Favourite Minor Character?

Voyager had a pitiful joke of a recurring cast compared to DS9, and don't get me started on how annoying it was to see 30 new faces every episode for a ship with 150 total.

But given the few choices we viewers were offered...I'll say Ayala. Or maybe that older black dude in science blue that was always in the Mess Hall.

I always thought Seska was a great character and should have been kept around longer. She had more personality than most of the Voyager crew.

Kenneth Dalby was my favorite male minor character. I could totally sympathize with his encounter with the three Cardassians that raped and killed his lover (I hope he killed them in response.) Off topic: I would have tortured said Cardassians first, savoring their screams and pleas for mercy as I extracted internal organs inch by inch and gelded them for raping and torturing my beloved.

Tal Celes is my favorite female minor character. I find her to be on the cute side in terms of looks, and the somewhat clutziness is a welcome break from sometimes too perfect main cast members.

Seska. Easily. I loved / hated her from the moment she was introduced, and she made several annoying Kazon episodes more enjoyable for me, because she was so obviously using them, that it made me feel like I wasn't the only one not taking them seriously. She was also a really interesting, strong, smart female villain.

Though I loathed the episode in which she died ("Basics, Part II").

Not because she died, as I respect a series that kills off characters that are developed; I find that far more interesting and realistic than killing off redshirts. But because of that whole random mess where the baby wasn't Chakotay's. Seska was too frakking smart to make a mistake like that. It was a retcon by Jerry Taylor (she admited this in an interview that I read) who didn't want to put up with the story anymore - and couldn't stand the thought of leaving Chakotay's child (by what amounts to rape) to the Kazon. I don't blame her for wanting to be rid of the Kazon. I don't blame her for killing off Seska for some closure to that storyline (though I think she could have written a better ending in which she survived). But to pull something that huge out of nowhere at the last second felt like a disservice to the character; like lazy writing...because that's what it was.

Though I loathed the episode in which she died ("Basics, Part II").

Basics had I think a pretty good start, but just got stupid all the way around. I adore Chakotay's line "Stuck on a barren planet with the only Indian in the universe that can't start a fire by rubbing two sticks together." But I don't think Captain Janeway was stupid enough to not know why the Kazon were attacking in the same place and I don't think they would have been caught like they were.

I believe that they would have known going in that it could be a trap (which they did) and because of that would have put plans in place with the notion that they could get taken over. And I don't believe that once Voyager set down on that planet, she could have taken back off again. I'm pretty sure that B'Elanna was smart enough to have everything shut down.

So now you got the crew off the ship, hiding from the Kazon. The Kazon would be searching for guys with yellow on their uniform. Saying that, said Kazon might have picked the wrong guys with yellow on their uniform (like security) and don't make it back to Voyager because the crew have hidden phasor parts and com badges on themselves (like in boot heels).

Anyway "Basics" could have been a great Episode.

Now back on topic, my favorite is Ayala. There are a whole section of female shipper fic writers that write Janeway/Ayala fic out there.

^ lol, I've never understood that passion for Ayala :wtf:

< Icheb is definitely my favorite minor character!

The Borg Queen is great too, as Kashyk is  , but they both don't count :p

 See and I never understood the attraction to Kashyk but I know he has admirers, even among some of the Big Name J/C fans.

I do like fic that includes a lot of the lower deck characters, and I did read one fic somewhere that had Ayala marrying both of the Deleany sisters.

One after the other or simultaneously?

I'm pretty hardcore for the Wildman women because they were so over looked by the handful of scripts floated their way, which could be true about anyone... But Joe Carey takes the Biscuit because he could have been one of the greats if... Look how O'Brien rose from moving wallpaper extra to action man because the writers were pushing for an actor with a bit of talent, but Voyager didn't have any pets like that since apparently DS9 was a financial faliure, and they were not going to make the same mistake of making a show for someone paying attention.

I really like Lon Suder. Second are Tal Celes and the guy who lives at the bottom of the ship.

I'm gonna get flamed but... Naomi Wildman.

I liked the relationship she had with Seven and wished they had explored that more. Sort of the big sister/little sister/mother figure thing which was great contrast to the mother/daughter thing with Seven and the captain.

Lon Suder and Seska are great characters and I was sorry to see them go.

I also liked Dr Chaotica (if he counts) and One (who I think was the most ineresting of the minor Borg characters).

Tal Celes from "Good Shepard" she was also seem in "The Haunting of Deck 12" and was mentioned in Work Force Pt 2...

Definitely my favorite recurring female character (God I wished she'd been used more) because she's a great contrast to the veritable super-Starfleet types that the main cast has. She's not quite the everyday hero of Miles O'Brien, but the fact that she struggles with her job makes her someone audience members can identify with.

Disclaimer: I might be a bit biased, after all Tal Celes reminds me of the cute girl next door with the slight awkward streak that I've always liked since my adolescence.

I always liked Vorik, the Vulcan engineer, esp. since it's been hinted he's the twin brother of the other Vulcan engineer, Taurik, from TNG ep Lower Decks. -- RR

I did like the twin brother theory. That was nice. Another Theory was that B'Elanna was not the first woman he forced himself upon unwillingly.
