Who is your least favorite athlete?

Nope, I have no problem with a catcher sticking up for his pitcher. A-Rod accidentally got hit by a pitch by Bronson Arroyo, and instead of just taking his base he has to start bitching. So after hearing enough Tek gave it to him. I'm sorry that the man did not pause to take off his mask before taking it to A-Rod. Whatever, its not a big deal. I guess A-Rod should have taken off his batting helmet then too.

Eh, whatever people think about it, the game ended with Billy Mueller taking a Mariano Rivera cutter and depositing it into the bullen, so it all ended well.

I'm going to freak some people out here:

1. Jason Varitek. Any catcher who picks a fight (I don't care with who) and doesn't have the balls to take his mask off? No. No respect from me there. That's just cowardice.

that's like a hockey player who wears a visor who won't take his helmet off in a fight.

it's actually an extra two minute penalty for instigating if a player wearing a visor starts a fight without taking the helmet off

This is okay purely because he's picked the fight with a player for the Yankees? Anything is okay, as long as it's done to the Yankees, right?

That seems to be the propaganda, yep. Yankees have always been convenient scapegoats. Apparently it's still "hip" to pick on them. :(

Oh well. Not necessarily my least favorite athlete (I don't have one) but I do admit it kind of freaks me out when the Red Sox are playing and Kevin Youkilis does that weird little dance every time he steps up to the plate.

Female: Jana Pitman/Rawlinson: Never warmed to her. She just isn't a very personable figure.

Male: Anthony "The man" Mundine: Just too up himself, even before he went into boxing and he was in league. At first I didn't think he had the right stuff for boxing but he has done some very good things, its just his personality makes him a hard to like person.

Oh yes how could I forget Deco. He is the king of diving and cheating. Plays like a teenage girl. Now he has joined Chelsea to form quite possibly the most hated posse of players. Ballack, Terry, Cole, Drogba and Deco. Now that is one odious collection of cunts.

Ummm, good question. But I would go with either Barry Bonds, a complete asshole when I met him, Mike Tyson, because he is a woman-beating ear eating chump, and maybe even the Patriots. This cheating of theirs, as we are finding out more everyday, stretched back to when their ran began. And all I hear from Bellicek and his mantoy QB is 'everyone else did it." Well, so far, the only team that his been caught doing it are the Patriots.

I am no fan of Mcnab...but I think he has been right all along.

And when you say finding more and more about their cheating, what you do mean is that the investigation is over, and what was originally was accused of them, was the only thing that was finally discovered.

Also, seeing as how you are from San Diego, I assume you know Phil Rivers. You may call Brady a mantoy QB, but I would rather have him then that whiney bitch the Chargers have for a QB. If you are gonna be a smack talker like he is, you have to actually be good.

Such an A-Hole... is the A-Rod... who will drop the F-bomb... against the R-Sox... Thhhhheeeeeeeeee World Series has eluded A-Rod.

Right now for me it has to be Retief Goosen. He accused Tiger Woods of faking his knee injury during the US Open. Total lack of class.

I can't think of any athletes I personally dislike, honestly. I root for (and against) teams, not players.

Deion Sander - For being more PR than player
I think you fell for the PR, the negative PR that is. Deion might have been the best cover corner in NFL history. How you feel about him personally is your right, but as a player, Primetime was the s***.

Daedalus12, why do you call Stockton and Malone dirty players? I haven't followed the Jazz for years. I saw them play in the early 1990s, and they showed a lot of talent without being cheap.
Karl was known for throwing elbows. He once separated David Robinson from his senses for several minutes after a well timed and aimed, 'bow. Even in the twilight of his career he did it. I can't remember the player who got it while Karl was in his last year with the Lakers, but I'm sure the guy hasn't forgotten.

An objective case could easily be made that Karl was a dirty player. Don't know about Stockton, I've never actually seen him do anything.

EDIT oh and another one is Lleyton Hewitt, who is just a full on tosspot.

Damn. I can't believe someone got to this one before me.

He's a bigot and a prick.

I can't stand Serena Williams, either. Did you know she's never actually been defeated? She's lost as a result of injury, when she wasn't on her game, because she didn't really want to be there ... but never due to her opponent playing better tennis.

News flash, sweetie: Eat fewer bon bons and hit a Stairmaster on occasion; if you weren't carting around a caboose the size of a ... well, a caboose ... you'd probably still be ranked number one.

Hardly anyone will have heard of these people but no matter - they're as repellent (IMO, anyway) as anyone named here, if not more so.

Shane Warne. As a cricketer, he is / was exceptional. As a human being, he's a disgrace - an arrogant, spoiled, attention whoring arsehole who seems to think everything should revolve around him and who refuses to accept any responsibility for or consequences of his actions. Lleyton Hewitt is a saint compared to Warne.

A couple of people have mentioned Jana Pittman / Rawlinson. She's at least achieved something on the world stage, but she's so damned full of herself and is such a whiny drama queen it's very difficult to admire her for it.

Tamsyn Lewis, who's achieved nothing on the world stage yet expects to be praised and fawned over as though she's the female Michael Johnson.

Anthony Mundine, who has an ego the size of the cosmos, is racist (and plays the race card at every available opportunity), bigoted, sexist, arrogant beyond belief, and has built a record in boxing by fighting people no one's ever heard of. Seeing him flattened by about the only "name" boxer he took on is by far the best thing I've seen happen in a boxing "ring". :bolian:

Mal Meninga is despicable. I can still see this miserable pinhead whining that his sport (rugby league) had done nothing for him - nothing other than give him a national profile and a crapload of money, that is. Even now, whenever I see him on TV I feel like throwing something at it. A whiny, pathetic, money-grubbing loser.

Now for a couple everyone's heard of. Tiger Woods. I cannot stand him. Never could. And I agree with JM1776 about Serena Williams; her range of excuses when defeated earn her full marks for creativity and zero for sportsmanship.

We all gush over the great athletes but what about the no good bums that piss you off everytime you see their ugly faces up on Sportscentre?

Who do you detest most in sports, and for what reason?

For me, I've always hated Chris Chelios - just a no good, cheap asshole. But now he's actually making me respect him, playing like a 30 year old at 44 and has a very good chance of winning a cup this year. What a motherfucker.

Same thing with Cristiano Ronaldo - he used to piss me off like you wouldn't believe, the cheating, diving crying bitch that he is, but now he's actually elevated his game and doesn't dive as much as he used to, which in turn makes me hate him less. What an asshole.

All those baseball players - Roger, Barry, Rafael - who lie about taking steroids piss me off. I think that's a given though.

So it has to be one guy who really gets to me and hasn't elevated their game to the point where it would be foolish not to acknowledge it.

My vote would go to Alexi Yashin. A dirty, diving Russian who did have talent, this guy actually sat out for a full year while under contract because he felt he wasn't getting paid fairly after having one good year (he was getting paid 3.6 million, poor guy). This wasn't even the first contract dispute in his checkered career. He ends up getting traded to the Islanders and signed a massive 10 year, 87 million dollar contract. He then proceeded to mail it in for the rest of his career, never posting a point per game again even though he was capable of it. He stunk up the joint nightly, and in his last few weeks with the Isles played on the 4th line. The Islanders ended up buying out the rest of his contract and are saddled with his salary under the cap for a few more years. He now plays in Russia, the ultimate cop out. I hope he gets hepatitus from one of the locker rooms out there.

To me this guy represented everything wrong with pro athletes. He was in it for the money, had no honor or integrity, had a sense of entitlment even though he had never won anything, and disapeared when the going got tough.

Being an Islander fan I feel your pain.

Dirt Bags: Pac-Man Jones, Michael Vick, and Brandon Marshall
Steroid guys: Barry Bonds, Rafael Plamero and Rodger Clemons (and all of Clemons' other issues)
Whiners: T.O. and Chad Johnson

Wayne Rooney, whoever Zidane headbutted that time, Chris Pronger, Chris Chelios, Mark Messier, Jacques Villaneuve (well, why not?).

Shaq. I've hated him since he was in LA and still do.

Isiah Thomas. Too bad he was such a great player, but I just can't take him seriously anymore.
