New thread, you can choose more than one

I thought they were all more or less good. It's a tough choice

But if I have to pick one this time I'd pick Karl Urban/McCoy. He may not have much screen time but he is great.

Chekov I did not like at first but as the movie progressed I changed my mind completely.
And Greenwood as Pike.

I don't know....I like the McCoy this movie gives us as a character (a lot), but at times I almost got the feeling that Urban was trying to do a DeForest Kelly impersonation....moreso than with the other new actors and their roles.

My favorite new character is Scotty's dwarf sidekick. :)

Thank you so much for listening to my whining :) Can I now have a poll with five options please? I still find it hard to choose!

Kidding of course. But still, I do think the entire cast did a great job. Not quite sold on Zoe Saldana as Uhura until another viewing, but the rest? Yay!

Oh, and I gotta say, much as I despised all the Robau-badass nonsense those last few months, that one has immortalized himself with only a few brief scenes. Much more than many an expendable guest Captain in the previous films.

Quoting from the other thread:
My feelings exactly. The whole theater had a lot of fun with his character throughout the film. And I loved his hero moment.
Chekov by a country mile. A wonderful portrayal of Chekov, not an imitation, he brought so much to the role. I hope Koenig is impressed.
Oh boy, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt like that. :techman:

And every now and then, he manages to get an ever so subtle Shatnerism in there between the lines.
Yeah, did you notice him sitting in the Captain's chair with crossed legs at the end? That was so Shatner-like!

Okay, this time I voted ...

Chris Pine as Kirk
Karl Urban as McCoy
Simon Pegg as Scotty
Anton Yelchin as Chekov
Bruce Greenwood as Pike
Ben Cross as Sarek

:D

Yes! Also the thing with the apple during the Kobayashi Maru. Although that might count more as an easter egg for fans. There are too many such moments to recall in detail from just that one viewing, but I thought about the resemblance many times during the film.

You voted six?? Damn it, I guess I didn't read the instructions carefully again! OK, then chalk one up for Ben Cross for me as well. I liked it that you liked him too. I heard there's a lot of negativity going around for his performance. Which I truly don't understand.

Eddie, I asked about this in the other thread that was closed, did you see the German dubbed version or the original one?

Thankfully the original. I would've felt it jarring to hear a dubbed Spock Prime since I haven't seen dubbed Star Trek since, I don't know, 1999 or something, thank you DVD. And Yelchin alone is worth it. I guess you can make a convincing Russian accent from any language, but this was just too good.

I voted for Robau. He is the most compelling new character.

All kidding aside, the man was on screen for what ? 2 minutes ?

And yet he did manage to live up to his badass fame. There was something about him, a certain gravity.
He was The Captain. No doubt about it

Unfortunately I had to watch the German version. I went with four friends who hardly ever watch a film in its original version. And guess what, old Spock's voice really did felt jarring. I think I'm just too accustomed to his old German voice. However, I will see it again tomorrow. And this time, the original! I'm looking forward to hearing Chekov's real voice! :D

You bet I liked him, too! Ben Cross was perfect as Sarek, really. He brought a certain gravitas to the character; even without having many scenes. I loved the bit where he is confessing to Spock that he married Amanda, because he loved her. I thought that was brilliant dialog! I'm thrilled to hear that line in Cross' original voice tomorrow.

.

One more thumbs up for Ben Cross from me...

I voted Kirk, but they are all pretty good. Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Pike and Kirk particularly all stood out as great characters.

I thought Pine, Urban, and Greenwood were the most spot-on in capturing the essence of Kirk, McCoy, and Pike, respectively.

The scene at the end where Kirk is in gold and takes the comamnd chair seemed to embody Kirk so much, right down to how he crossed his legs and how he swaggered around the bridge.

Spock is just so spot-in that I have to give him the nod, but an easier question would be who don't I like. ;)
