I think it should be Saru. However, you never know, Janeway, Riker, La Forge, or someone else familiar might also be trapped in the future. Could be Worf. The Discovery interacting with a Klingon captain would be interesting to see.

I hope the writers don't take that route. I think it would feel too much like when Scotty showed up in "Relics".

Mirror Kirk could have ended up in the distant future of the prime universe (similar, but opposite to the concept for ENT's IAMD) ;)
It would be insane though if the EMH from Living Witness would show up, perhaps with ECH upgrades XD

Simple. They become an anarcho-syndicalist commune. They take it in turns to act as sort of executive officer for the week but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two thirds majority in the case of more important matters.

The Red Angel, her arm clad in the purest shimmering duranium, held aloft the Time Crystal from the bosom of the Temporal Distortion, signifying by divine providence that I, Michael Burnham, was to carry the Time Crystal. That is why I am your captain.

Discovery goes WAY too far ahead in time. Most of the crew starving, eat the remaining spore storage container contents, become sandworms, and turn Terralyseum into a harsh desert planet. The New Eden residents living there use their synthetic faith to become the freemen and flourish on the now ruined world desert planet. Alone and terrified of A.I after the events of season 2, Saru becomes the first space navigator, and founds the Guild of Navigators.

Burnham's mom founds a new sisterhood, using her prescient knowledge to develop a long term plan to deal with these events, while Georgio founds house Corrino and establishes a new Terran Empire.

That's not too bad, considering they could've ended up in a place where the whole Federation era is known as 'The Dark Age of Technology', the Mycelial Network is known as The Warp/Immaterium, its denizens as Daemons, and the first ship they encounter is a flying gothic cathedral the size of Earth Spacedock, adorned with spikes, skulls and gargoyles everywhere, which then proceeds to unceremoniously blast them out of the sky while announcing they must be cleansed in the Emperor's name due to an infestation of xeno scum on board.

Great. Now I'm imagining Saru with that weird vagina mouth the navigator from the Lynch movie.

I hope you're happy.

*Swallows his annoyance by his empty reference pools and googles the guild navigator from the Lynch movie*

Thank you, I think I'll just go back to Monty Burnham and the Holy Grail and my mental image of Tilly following her around and constantly banging two empty coconut halves together.

... Hm, I wonder what Tilly would imitate the warp drive's hum with. Would she just hum constantly until someone yelled at her to shut up? :guffaw:

Saru was literally left as commanding officer when Pike left. Actually literally.

Well, if by literal we mean something put in words, Pike was very clear about being very unclear.

"Mr. Saru, you have the Conn as Commander Burnham leads you through the wormhole. As to what happens after that... I would prefer if we focus on our respective tasks for now and discuss the captaincy later. There are many things to consider."

Talk about failure to take charge!

Why was Pike saying this stupid thing? Did he have some reason to oppose Saru as the CO? Earlier in the season, he was all about preserving Saru's status as Acting Captain, reducing himself to mere temporary mission boss.

"Mr. Saru. My mission has ended; I believe this one's yours." [..] "Does Commander Saru know?" "Yes. And we'll treat this like a joint custody situation."

Does he now have a hidden agenda that cannot proceed unless Saru is given the boot? Or did he change his mind when Saru had his radically altered?

Since MUGeorgiou is officially in a different division of SF, perhaps that would keep her out of the chain of command on the ship.

...Although no doubt Starfleet rules and regulations feature an obscure sub-clause that allows any and all S31 personnel to assume command of any and all regular Starfleet ships when certain deliberately fuzzily defined conditions are met.

I think Saru would be the obvious choice .... but MUGeorgiou is the funniest one.

And an new and strange world (I believe that S3 could be a Lost in space Trek kind of thing)... the MU leading would be very useful for the ship.
I keep my fingers crossed on Georgiou.
