Which Doctor Did You Like Better...Dr. Crusher or Dr. Pulaski?

Hard to say -- I always liked the fact that Diana M had been on the original series, but she did seem brusque on Next Generation. I'm glad she stopped being odd with Data, too.

Both of 'em seem to be okay as doctors so that wouldn't be a deciding factor for me.

I never liked Dr P's hair-do -- looked like futuristic mullet.

So what is my answer? Hmm. Can't say!

My votes for Beverly, Pulaski was okay, but she would have worked better in more of a recurring capacity.

Forget personality Dr. Pulaski is a better doctor but I'd still choose crusher over any of the TOS Dr's. If i was critically ill & could choose only one Trek Dr. (TOS - Enterprise) I'd choose Pulaski or Phlox. The EMH had the most programmed experience but lacked everything else that makes a great doctor. Pulaski & Phlox fit the bill best. As well they seemed to be the only Dr's that cared if their patients lived or died. Bashir also makes it into this group but lacked the necessary maturity until season 4 or 5. Pulaski constantly undermining of Data is annoying but she or Phlox are still the best doctors. It's precisely her personality that falsely leads people to judge her medical abilities but when is comes to proficiency personality is irrelevant. Bedside matter is a bonus but somewhat of an afterthought if you're dead.

Ranked Star Trek Medical Dr's (not including newer series)

Phlox
Pulaski
Bashir
EMH "Doc" (Joe)
Boyce
Crusher
McCoy

Crusher. Both she and Troi were underserved as characters, but I generally enjoyed her. Pulaski was a weird McCoy clone (was she a studio note or something — like WTF?), and one who for me was more annoying than endearing among this cast. Someone that had to be put up with out of politeness. That said, I did like her relationship with Worf. Though it’s funny that anachronistic she can be friends with the black man — oh, right, Klingon — but not the nicest android in the world.

Dude! Resurrecting a TEN YEAR OLD thread is really ridiculous. A viewing of the board rules is in order. Ordinarily, I’d lock this but useful activity has followed.
Hey! A nickname I gave myself is THE DEAD THREAD REVIVER because I like reviving dead threads. I haven't revived a dead thread in a while because I haven't found one I want to revive. That said, I still feel like I did when I started this thread. I like Pulaski better. But of all the Star Trek doctors, Bashir is my favorite. All the Star Trek doctors being McCoy, Crusher, Pulaski, Bashir, Hologram Doctor and Phlox. I can't get in to Discovery. That's why I didn't name the Discovery doctor.

Both have merits. Beverly is a comfort blanket character, whereas Pulaski is a completely different take on the CMO role. She's more House than McCoy. But it does create a different dynamic for a season and she gets a satisfying arc in that short span.

I think I prefer Crusher. She's the 'default' 1701-D CMO in my mind, but I'm glad we had a little divergence in Season 2.

I will always prefer Dr. Crusher, if only because everything about Pulaski rubs me the wrong way, and not just the Data thing in the beginning. I mean I'm mostly joking when I call her the Queen of the Space Harpies, sitting upon the Gorgon Throne, but I really don't like her. Though I also don't like McCoy, and I generally don't like the abrasive/grouchy doctor archetype (with one exception, see below) though tbh I don't think Pulaski was all that much like McCoy she was her own character, especially after that stuff with Data was dropped.Problem is, even if she's her own character, I don't like that character.

That being said I don't know how much of my liking of Dr.Crusher is simply because she isn't Pulaski. But I genuinely think that she had potential as a character, and that Cheryl McFadden could have performed a much better, more nuanced character if she had been given better material. Her scene in Data's Day is marvellous and I really liked her in the High Ground.
My favourite Trek Doctor, on the other hand is probably Dr.T'Ana from Lower Decks. Yeah she's a grouchy doctor but...with her I don't mind, for some reason. I think it's because she is a humanoid cat (and with cats that personality just makes sense) and because she got enough moments to show that she cares, imo.

my list of doctors, favorite and down (Not going to put in Mbenga as he didn't get much screen time, and will be a SNW character full of new possibilities)

1: Culber.
a wonderfully fleshed out character, a true hero.

2: T'ana
just don't get cheese on her fur.

3: McCoy
enough said

4: EMH
a little EMH goes a long way, but when Picardo was given something to work with, it was memorable. I will always love his scene in FC

5: Crusher
I like Crusher. and if I was a ghost in a candle, she'd like me.

6: Bashir
despite his flaws he's an interesting character, or maybe because of them. his friendships, his dating mishaps, the love unspoken between him and a certain untrustworthy tailor, not to mention being an augment.

5: Phlox
and actor capable of far more than they gave him to work with. easily one of the most uplifting characters in the franchise.

6: Pollard
I don't know a lot about Pollard but she seems ok.

7: The alien doctor aboard the Kelvin
just because she isn't Pulaski

8: Boyce
Boyce doesn't belong on here, but he's a doctor and he's not Pulaski so I am giving the bartender a spot on the list.

9: Jurati
She's a doctor and she technically took care of a patient on a starship. And she's not..

10: Pulaski
a cheap McCoy clone.

Personally, I think I like Dr. Pulaski better. she seems to have more...personality. I like Dr. Crusher too. OK...I admit it: I'm undecided. I like both but I do like Pulaski just a little better. Those of you who are NOT undecided, I'd like to hear who you like better...Dr. Crusher or Dr. Pulaski.

Crusher was really hit or miss, depending on script.

Pulaski seemed to have an actual reason for being there, from start to finish. Not just with her "grow to love Data" arc, not just to warm an empty role, but having an actual personality and sense of authority and uses it completely. Pulaski didn't get 7 seasons, but she had more character development in a fifth of season 2 than Crusher got in her 6 seasons plus 4 movies.

Pulaski would have been a better commander in "Descent", or at least a more watchable one. She takes charge within her division with aplomb. Crusher has the right sense of morality, but not the stout sternness that worked so much better against Picard with that Pulaski brought to the proverbial table.

Pulaski.

If you try to describe Crusher’s character without mentioning (to use the RLM test) what her profession is, the costume she wore, what she looked like, or the fact that she’s a parent…and you are going to have a really hard time.

She’s one of the most wooden, unremarkable, indistinguishable Star Trek characters ever conceived.

That's the problem with search engines... you type in something, and it comes right up. I almost resurrected a couple of interesting-looking threads that I unearthed thus before noticing their age.

Pulaski wins in a walk, IMO.
