Where is your confidence level now with ST:Dis?

Hey, new poster here! :)

I think it's difficult to build an image of what it'll be like as we know so little really. Once a proper teaser or trailer comes out I imagine it'll be easier to gauge my confidence level. I'd have rather had a series set post Voyager/Nemesis but I'm happy that Trek is back on the small screen and that we're returning to the Prime Universe.

My main hope is that it's successful and we'll see Trek being a regular fixture again. It seems that the momentum that the first film generated has diminished somewhat so I wonder if it will make a big impact with casual fans and general TV viewers. Both the socio-political climate and the vibe of sci-fi on TV have changed a lot since Enterprise ended so I wonder if it'll be quite different tonally to what's come before.

I guess now I'm quietly confident but a little nervous; essentially how I felt when Doctor Who came back in 2005 and Star Wars the year before last. Ultimately, my main hope is that it reignites the show on the small screen; as Star Trek was omnipresent in my childhood on TV via TOS and TNG reruns and DS9 and Voyager, the post-Enterprise wilderness has felt rather odd!

Some of my confidence depends on when the new launch date will be. If it's during the summer, say July, then that would be okie as there's not that much competition. However, if it launches in October as rumored among the bloat of new and returning shows, it has a much greater chance of disappearing in the crowd.

Yeah I'd say my confidence remains about the same -- rather high. I'm disappointed that they pushed the show back again, but I'm glad CBS is giving them the time they need to do the show right. They could easily just say "get it done by May" but they haven't.

After today's delay

2/10 confidence

That good, huh?

Man, what the FUCK is it with these constant delays? I'm seriously wondering if this show is ever going to be made.

There's no reason this should be happening. Something is wrong here. What is it they're not telling us? :(

Just because we don't know the reason doesn't mean there isn't one. Or that the reason is dire or a "bad sign." It could be anything from scheduling issues with actors and production, a late start while Fuller was finishing his other shows that is still pushing everything back, effects work, etc. It could be all kinds of things. Productions like this are big undertakings with lots of moving pieces.

And speculating "what they're not telling us" presumes that we have a right to know what's going on behind the scenes and get constant updates on production, but that's not how the world works.

In writing, production, etc my confidence is still very high. But the delays are making my excitement peak an ebb.

Well as to whether or not it's a Prequel: IMO with the inclusion of Sarek (Mr. Spock's father) as a
A prequel is a work that forms part of a back-story to the preceding work. This is it's own story, not a lead in.
See this article:

Ergo, with "Sarek" (Mr. Spock's father - who appeared in the TOS episode "Journey to Babel" and in ST:III and ST:IV and ST:VI and TNG episodes "Sarek" and "Unification I") cast as a character who will appear in the show; I'd say STD's description as a 'Prequel' is justified.

My confidence was up there when they announced this thing, but with all the delay's, set backs, and no release date now, my confidence level is down.

I'm still glad they have another Star Trek coming, but it should be sooner rather than later.

How long did it take for the other series for conception to production to broadcast?

While I'm disappointed that we'll have to wait even longer to see it, I suppose it could be for the best if they need the time to work out things or whatever it is that is causing the delay.

I recall some Star Wars fans that got worried when news about extensive re-shoots and editing on Rogue One was announced, but we ended up with a terrific movie (in my mind the best SW movie since TESB).
