When will Burnham get her rank back?

It is entirely possible that her record gets wiped. Spock's too.
I think this is a likely scenario. She'll do something heroic and save the galaxy and/or the Admiral, expose Lorca, and get a Starfleet pardon. The end, see you in season 2.

Or this proves to not be the main timeline at the start, and where ever she ends up, she wasn't court marshalled to begin with.

I am assuming the Spore Drive is actually a dimensional jumping drive, rather than a Time-Space drive. It also seems to jump Time-Space, but that's only because that's have far shifted the other universe is from the one Discover left.

Another example of officers going rogue and being let off the hook: TSFS. Kirk and the bridge crew hijack the Enterprise against direct Starfleet orders, assault several officers in the process, disable the Excelsior, and hightail it back to Genesis to put Spock's katra back in his regenerated body because he's their friend.

And the only reason they got off was because they saved Earth in TVH. Starfleet looks the other way for heroes.

No commodore there means no official court-martial. Likely Starfleet just wed the records. I expect the same for Birnham, someday.

I argued in a different thread that an additional reason may be that defiance of the Klingon demands for justice may be perceived (post-Binary Stars' apologies and jail for Burnham) as a sign of strength with positive diplomatic outcomes.

That's true and a good point. But Mendez was at Starbase 11 and was aware of the Enterprise's incursion into Talos IV space and gave authorization to allow it, and mentions that Starfleet won't press charges against Spock. Starfleet brass was aware of Spock's mutiny.
Exactly. Mendez and Starfleet were all quite aware of Spock's actions and motivation. They let it slide because Pike is famous and well liked.

I don't understand why you guys feel this way. Burnham not being captain is one of the hallmarks of the show. I hope she gets field ensign only.

I don't want to see her shoot up to Captain, either, but I think 'field ensign only' is seriously underselling the story arc. The ideal solution would be to expunge her record for some reason and let her continue as the Cmdr. she originally was. Or have her redeem herself through a noble self-sacrifice - but I doubt anyone at CBS would've approved that idea.

It is entirely possible that her record gets wiped.

"Hey, remember when that one officer mutinied against Starfleet and started a war with the Klingons that killed millions? And it was, like, the biggest news ever and everybody knew her name and hated her? What was her name again?"

"Shh! Don't forget we live in a highly monitored police state. That *never* happened."

Publicly absolved of her mutiny and the blame shifted to where it belongs....the Klingons. Rallies the troops and wins the war to the point where the Klingons can't win and the "peace" holds until Organia, a war that lasts all of four days, because powerful aliens just stop it.

Biggest PR win in Starfleet history until James T. Kirk.

Millions? Yeah, not so much. The only specific figure we have is the 8 thousand, presumably after those first few fatal days. Also, she didn't start it, no matter what Starfleet is trying to peddle to the rank and file at the time. Perhaps they do end up correcting the record, acknowledging their error on blaming someone for something they really didn't have any control over. The Klingons were the aggressors from the beginning.

8,196 as of Burnham's shuttle trip. A preview clip from next week specifies about 10,000 dead, although it's unclear if that is in addition to the 8,196 or that there have only been about 1800 more deaths over the course of the last two months or so.

My millions is a hypothetical number after all is said and done and the series (and war) is long ended. It seems unlikely at this point that it will ever reach that high, but there will likely be a few more setbacks on the Federation's end, after their current string of victories end before the final showdown. That's generally how dramatic storylines work.
