When will Burnham get her rank back?

That's never stopped anyone before, especially if you have connections. Apparently you can be convicted of treason and get back in. (Tom Paris)
Um, he didn't have a Rank in the ST:VOY pilot episode - he was just an 'advisor'.

Janeway reinstated him to a field promotion after they were 70K+ LY from home. Remember, even the Maqui on the ship supposedly ALL had prison sentences waiting for them on their return home. <--- That was mentioned the first season on VOY a few times while I was still watching it (quit after "The 37's").

Given the era and the situation - I don't see Burnham ever being reinstated to Star Fleet as an enlisted/rank holding crewman anytime in her remaining lifetime (character wise.)

Lorca feels her intelligence and experience are still useful to his war effort, but even he did feel it proper to give her a ranked re-commission.

Not sure how that disproves my point. Tom becomes a Starfleet officer again, right?

She is a mutineer and Lorca is only reason she is not in jail. If/when Lorca bites the dust, she is back in the brig, so forget about her rank, she won't even be in Starfleet. Or at least this is how it should be if STD had common sense.
Star trek and commonsense are not regular bedfellows

They (being the producers) might give it back to her at some point, but all things considered, I think it would be a controversial move in-storyline. Even if Starfleet Command felt that it was merited, there would probably be a public outcry against it (since Burnham is so synonymous with the start of the war itself); it would probably be an unpopular move even among the ranks.

She'd have to do something spectacular, like save the Earth or something.

Well, apparently word was spread that she was instrumental in saving Corvan II, so maybe she's on her way. BTW, she's not an "advisor", she's definitely at least a "crewperson" - Lorca said she was conscripted into his crew.

Even then, I could still see it being controversial; like, “yeah, she saved the Earth, but it wouldn’t have needed saving if...”
If it's the Klingons she saves it from. But for all we know, T'Kuvma's reuniting of the Houses plan was over as soon as Kol took Voq's ship, really, and the war will be over by the end of this season. Maybe she saves the Earth from angry tardigrades. ;)

I want her to get rank back. I could see Lorca giving her rank over Starfleet objections. The Discovery then, would become like a bubble to Burnham: while serving in it, she'd hold rank; when out of it, she'd still be a rankless mutineer. For instance, if she was made a lieutenant, she'd have the pips or whatever ranking decorations they have. If they stopped at a starbase though, she'd be best off not setting a foot off of Discovery.

Also, I would love to see her a captain, but it would take a -lot- of work by the writers to make it seem realistic.

I think she should remain crew. She needs to be part of the chain of command but there's no need to have her advance in Starfleet as a career opportunity. She attacked her Captain.

Best case scenario she returns to Starfleet with a demotion. Lt. Commander would be about right, but she better save the planet to do so.
Kirk got demoted from Admiral to Captain but he had to save Earth from some singing whale probe thingy

Tom wasn't convicted of treason.

All we know is that he got himself captured on his first mission as a Maquis. We have no idea what that mission was, but I doubt it involved flat-out treason. That's not in Tom's wheelhouse anyway.

You mean he was rewarded by being demoted. Clever way to "discipline" him while giving him exactly what he wanted. :techman:

I don't remember if this was treated as a reward by admiralty or not. I mean, yeah, Kirk didn't really want to be an Admiral, and he got what he really wanted, but did those in charge really feel it was a reward to Kirk being demoted? It may have been covered in Star Trek V, but I have not seen that movie in at least 25 years (and don't plan on any time soon), so don't remember.

^ Oh it was obviously a reward. From the transcripts:

FEDERATION PRESIDENT: James T. Kirk. ...It is the judgment of this Council that you be reduced in rank to Captain, ...and that as a consequence of your new rank, you be given the duties for which you have repeatedly demonstrated unswerving ability. The command of a starship. ...Silence! Captain Kirk, You and your crew have saved this planet from its own short-sightedness ...and we are forever in your debt.
(prolonged applause and cheers from all those present)
