What's with the Klingons? (SPOILERS)

THEY WEAR HELMETS! THEY NEVER WORE HELMETS! JJA RAPED MY CHILDHOOD, KILLED MY PUPPIE AND BURNED MY HOUSE!!!!
BOYCOTT!

Actually, it's the trenchcoats that bother me. Klingons do not wear trenchcoats.

Klingons in trenchcoats rapes my childhood and is sound reason for me to boycott this movie.

Of course Klingons wear trenchcoats, especially prison guards:

Your definition of trenchcoat differs from mine.

Law enforcement in our world have helmets they can use in dangerous situations, I trust Klingons would have that as well.

Most definately, but I tell ya there's bound to be a topic about them not being canon ;)
Only an idiot would seriously make this claim... so I'm guessing you're not being serious.

Nobody's ever seen a Klingon's underwear either... does that mean that it's officially "canon" that Klingons go commando???

We've never seen a Klingon wearing a helmet. Now we do. So we're ADDING to continuity... not taking away from it. See how that works? It's a big galaxy... plenty of stuff to be added.

The only complaints come when, in this huge galaxy with a bazillion possible things that could be added, instead they choose to focus on the tiny number of things we already know, and choose to overtly contradict those things.

i see what you're saying, but the underwear example is not so relevant, since underwear is worn underneath other garments but a helmet is clearly visible on the outside

We know Rura Penthre is an extrememly cold asteroid so perhaps the mask, gloves and trenchcoats are to protect against frostbite?

Right... they had to save money after spending half the budget making dorky "chevron-imprinted fabric" for the costumes... ;)

Well when the rest of the costume is off-the-shelf items...

And FYI, it looks like the tunics were made from white fabric with the color and delta patterns added in via dye sublimation. It's cheap enough that some fans are looking at options to recreate it here.
Interesting... I'd have sworn, from the images we'd seen, that the chevrons were actually standing out from the surface... ie, embroidered in rather than just "died in."

This, at least, makes a bit more sense... the suggestion that it was right in the weave was something that's always set me off (knowing how much money goes into specialized weaving like that). If they're just doing a subtle die-job, it's far more cost-effective (though still goofy as heck, IMHO).

I think somewhere in the tunic thread somebody points out that it looks like there's faux shadows under the chevron shapes. That's probably why they look dimensional.

They don't look like helmets to me. Masks maybe. Executioners?

That's what I think. Add this to the last scene in the trailer "The wait is over," and I think this is his escape from prison. I'll guess his peeps break him outta "the rock" and they steal a mining vessel tricked out with one of those Klingon time travel devices like Janeway had. That'd 'splain the drill over Vulcan and how Romulans have time travel. Strictly speaking they don't, unless the steal it from Klingons, whom we know do have it (from Voyager, Endgame). The Hentai ship  is probably a giant Klingon or Reman mining ship, thus the drill and weapons too (because Klingons in particular would never leave anything unarmed).

Oh, yes I did...I mean it's just screams "hentai" don't it? Hmmm, that lends a whole new layer of meaning to the battle with the Gray Lady. Enterprise is a virtuous woman...the Hen is, just, well...ewww.

I say we christen it the IRC (Imperial Romulan Cruiser) Hentai...Hen for short.

Edit for the kiddies: You won't be able to look that one up with the parental controls turned on.

^ This will be David Boreanz guest appearance as Vulcan Counselor 3: Did somebody order a tentacle rape Apocalypse?

Amanda: Oh, I did.

Dirty look from Surak..

Amanda...What? I have a receipt.

I agree with the Klingon prison break-out, and that its likely a mining ship. I think, however, that they use a slingshot maneuver to go back in time, using a star near the Klingon border. When they pop out in the 23rd century, the USS Kelvin just happens to be in the way. This would also explain the presence and destruction of the 47 Klingon warships apparently on the same day.

But will TREK XI Klingons have lavender/pink blood?

Wait.
That's a common misconception... that wasn't Klingon blood... it's just that the Klingons had gotten some rancid Gagh, and had just all consumed the ship's entire supply of Pepto Bismol...

So, if they break out of klingon prison, we can assume that the weapons that they carry in the movie are also klingon, stolen of course. Guess that solves the problem of what kirks carrying in the trailer.

JJ just wanted to give the Klingons a new look. New threads! I'll use the example of cardassian garb. Do you really think their armored uniforms looked practical? A lot of star trek costume has always been overdone. Its like they never assume that an alien might need to go out in the rain and wear a raincoat. Maybe a Klingon just wants to go fly fishing one day and needs waders. Do you think Vulcans wear robes when jogging? JJ is trying to bring everybody down to earth. What really works in the real world? And just because their not human doesn't mean they don't wear trenchcoats. The producer doesn't give a crap if it's canon! By the way, how many times over the years have costume and makeup people changed a certain species outfit or look. Klingons have been changed before. So have the romulans. To me the helmets and trenchcoats make them look more like mob goons! An interesting change, along with the romulans with no forehead ridges.
