What's with the Klingons? (SPOILERS)

Ernsthaft, ist das notwendig? Ich meine, klar, ich bin auf deiner Seite, aber mit dieser Haltung bestätigst du doch genau das, was man den Befürwortern in dem anderen Thread vorgeworfen hat.

pm? ;)

But I agree, it's a reasonable question to ask imo.
Sorry, of course you are right. Here's what I asked:

"Seriously, is that necessary? I mean, yes, I'm on your side, but with this attitude you're just confirming what the supporters were accused of in the other thread."

Well, since the Enterprise is different, the Romulans are different, why not the Klingons?

Bad, bad idea. The Klingons are just too iconic.

Are they? Just look at them in TOs and then in TNG. not much similarity there.

But this shot is supposed to take place in the late TNG era, and so I think they should look like how we know them to look in that time from TNG, DS9 and VOY.

S&M masks, long pervy trench coats...are we sure its a jail and not just some fetish club and Nero is just using the prisoner thing as a cover story?

If you ask me, the Klingons have always had an S&M subtext. Just look at Lursa and B'Etor!

In one of the photos from the trailer we see Nero, in the post-Nemesis future, in Rura Penthe accompanied by two Klingon guards wearing bizzare helmets over their heads. Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be about?

You learn what they're up to rather quickly, until Bruce Willis walks in to free Nero with a samurai sword.

That's SULU, ya old knucklehead.

Sulu uses fencing swords; Bruce Willis saves mob bosses and Romulan villains from The Gimp.

THEY WEAR HELMETS! THEY NEVER WORE HELMETS! JJA RAPED MY CHILDHOOD, KILLED MY PUPPIE AND BURNED MY HOUSE!!!!
BOYCOTT!

Actually, it's the trenchcoats that bother me. Klingons do not wear trenchcoats.

Klingons in trenchcoats rapes my childhood and is sound reason for me to boycott this movie.

Perhaps JJ is tackling the canon issue of whether Klingons have smooth TOS foreheads or bumpy foreheads by hiding the foreheads behind bumpy masks!

and from my other thread, this is what people were saying in 1984:

#R:mako:-14700:ihlpf:6700001:000:1394 ihlpf!ctb
Jun 9 17:46:00 1984

I saw ST3, and went away with a bad taste in my mouth. the klingons were believable?? what was that plastic crap on top of their heads?? did that look real?

Gene Roddenberry was happy to change the look of the Klingons and offer no on-screen explanation - if it's good enough for Roddenberry, why isn't it good enough for you?

Here's a picture btw, so everyone knows what this is about (hard to see clearly just watching the trailer):

and Abrams' comment:
"Nero in rags being manhandled by Klingon guards (yes, they're Klingons under the masks). "Part of Nero's back story is that he was being held in a Klingon prison, so that's what you're seeing here.""

Are we even sure this is Rura Penthe? That'd be a great nod of much-needed continuity to a popular, previous film as well as the somewhat less-so ENTERPRISE, but until today I hadn't heard Rura Penthe was going to be the location of Nero's internment.

"Yeah. We cool.

On one condition.

When you're gone. You STAY GONE.

You lost all your Alpha Quadrant privileges."

Which explains his tentacle-rape starship:lol:

Oh thats going to give me nightmares :guffaw:

Tentacle Rape Starship.

The ageing members of Jefferson Airplane go ONE step too far for anyone's comfort.

We built this starship...on...EARTH...oh, yeah!

*Narada impales every ship in its path through their shuttlebays with its tentacles*

Abrams "Now you see this scene is very symbollic..."

Of course Klingons wear trenchcoats, especially prison guards:
