What would you do with $100 million?

Hmm, lets see...I´d give money to my parents, so that they can either modernisize their house or buy one they like and have enough money for at least financially live without worries also when they are old and may need care.
Same for my grandma and other close family.
Would give money also to my closest friends for whatever they want.
Would pay of my student loans and do some of the further on studies I would like to do, even when rich I would continue working.
I´d buy myself also a nice cosy home with a garden. I´d travel now and then. I´d participate in some projects in India etc. myself. There are projects where you help for some time in a nursery or home for children with special needs or orphanage, love to do something like that, but the programs are so expensive, that I will need some years to save up the money, if I had the money right now I´d do it now and more often.
I´d donate a lot of the money for things that I find important, like the animal home in my city, projekts for children, old people, research etc.
I´d save some for my own retirement and my future husband and children.

TerokNor

-Pay off my credit card debt.
-Buy a used, hybrid car.
-Finish the dental surgeries and repairs I began last year.
-Deposit the rest in savings.

I'd likely donate some amount to a charity or two as well. More likely though the majority of what I'd be willing to spend (not including what I'd throw in to savings) would go toward purchasing a sensible property somewhere in town that I could fix up and then rent out to a tenant.

I'd do this in random order:

1) pay off all my debts and tell them all to kiss my fat ass
2) give a whopping sum to Dad so he could be debt-free
3) give another sum to my Aunt so she can invest in her resturant wisely
4) give Mom a wonderful Christmas present-re-do this entire house and fix the problem we have in the dining area! Get her to pick out all new wallpaper and flooring..plus re-do kitchen
5) take pets to vets and get their much needed shots/exams/grooming
6) take a small vacation and go somewhere fun!

1) Pay taxes on the $100 Million.
2) Pay off my debt, mom's debt and brother's debt.
3) Save/invest 60 - 70% of remaining money. Meter it out until old age.
4) With remaining 30 -40% I would buy a big house/large piece of land for myself/immediate family or separate homes for us all on that land.
5) Make sure my mother was taken care of for the rest of her retirement/life.
6) Take a vacation and travel a little bit.
7) Start my own business.
8) Just try to live a happier and healthier life without having to worry about every cent.

Be very smart about my savings, etc. I would not be one of those people to blow all their money in the first month. I would make sure my finances were locked up tight so that I can live off of it for the rest of my life and be able to make sure those around me had an easier life as well.

It'll cost more than that.

BTW, did you know, in Australia, you don't pay taxes on winnings. You win 100m, you GET 100m.

Star Trek themed house. If that was a little OTT maybe scale that back a bit and buy an ordinary house and have a Star Treke themed room, or two.

Also a Babylon 5 themed room.

I guess keeping the rest in a bank, good idea or not?

I'd set aside $1 million for first class travel around the world and invest the rest so I could live off the dividends.

If I wanted to help others, I'd have more than enough starting capital just from the dividends to build something else.

My reckless investment would be to convert both B5 and DS9 to HD. That would be about $50 million. WB/Paramount/CBS can keep the rights. Perhaps I could have a cut of the licensing income. The rest would go on hookers and blow. Not really -- I'd make some careful investments and live off the income.

Buy everyone in my family a house and then charities, charities, charities. Live off investments and spend time thoroughly seeing countries. I have nothing other than decent housing I want as far as possessions. I can think of a few cities I would love to buy an apartment in and have there for family to stay in whenever they like.

Might get a couple more cats.

I would leave some money for my youngest niece and nephew so they could get the college education of their choice. And also I'd set enough aside so my stepmother, who has severe dementia, could be well cared for (in case anything ever happens to my dad).

Also I would probably pay off my mortgage, and do some repairs on my house that I've been putting off.

And I would LOVE to take a train trip across Canada, which I can't do now because I don't have the time or money :sigh: .

In no particular order (and probably much the same as many others)

- Pay off any debts (mine and immediate family)

- Buy/build my dream house with all necessary and unnecessary shenanigans

- Buy a sensible day to day car (upper middle class or upper class) and at least 1-2 fun and unnecessary cars (maybe an oldtimer convertible and a modern sports car, most likely an Aston Martin)

Once the initial spending run is done it's time to find a good tax and investment professional and break out the calculator.. what will i need to have per month/year for upkeep of house and a generous lifestyle (not exorbitant Hollywood/Super Rich lifestyles but enough never to have to look at bank statements again in theory).

The rest would be divided up between family and my closest friends so everybody is happy as much as money can buy.
