What was your first R-rated movie?

Wow I feel old. My first R rated movie in the theater was The Shining with Jack Nicholson. I was about 12 years old. Looking back, I'm not sure if my parents were really cool, or really bad parents because my two little brothers were there too.

First one I can think of in the theater that counts was Wildcats when I was 9 or 10. we got cable when I was 4, so I'm sure I saw a lot of others on TV much earlier; I certainly saw Alien on cable when I was little, maybe 7 or 8.

My parents never gave a shit about ratings or anything like that; they thought a screening of Poltergeist was a perfectly reasonable venue for my 5th birthday party.

The think the first R-rated movie I saw was Carrie, via Showtime. The movie came out in '76, so I probably saw it in '77 or '78. I was probably 8 or 9. I remember it, because we were the only people in our entire neighborhood to have Showtime; it was really very new at the time. My sisters and I watched a whole slew of R rated movies, thinking we were "getting away" with something, when the reality was that my mom really didn't care what we watched.

First on video: Flashdance.

First in the theater: Beverly Hills Cop, my step-dad took me.

First in theater without an adult: Stand By Me. My friends and I were only 16 and were nervous someone would ask for ID but nobody seemed to care.

First on a date: Aliens.

first on TV was probably one of the police academy movies, as for in theatres, my parents took me to see robocop

I don't know in general. The first one I was aware of the rating for was, I suppose, Amistad.

Backdraft - and I was three and can still remember it.

Photographic memory can be a gift and a curse.
