That is not unique to any religion

Actually the imperative to convert others is quite unusual among religions generally. The Christianity, Islam and Baha'i faiths all require their followers to actively recruit people into the religion and expect ultimately all people to follow them. Historically this is fairly uncommon. While Jews will obviously discuss and debate their faith if asked, Judaism does not expect or encourage the conversion of non Jews. Historically, this has been the more common attitude.

Whether expressed as The Golden Rule - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", The Threefold Law - "But mark well, when thou receivest good, so equally art bound to return good threefold", the teaching of Surak that says "The Spear in the Other’s heart is the spear in your own: you are he", or any other way that almost every religion on the planet expresses the concept, the ethic of reciprocity is nearly universal.

Sadly, according to the article, the number of Jedi adherents is on the decline, both in Canada and worldwide. Perhaps they heard about Order 66 and decided it was time to cut their losses.

Or perhaps they just saw Episodes I and VII.

Morgan Freeman's National Geographic show on "God" showed a researcher and doctor who purports to have accessed and recorded the presence of "God" in the human brain, as faith and spirituality are being experienced. Morgan had his own brain scanned, and the scan pictures were similar to others, while thinking about or mediating on "God".

Very odd. I'd have expected Morgan Freeman to just receive a vision of himself.

It is interesting to me, to watch him as Host and principal of the the Nat Geo show, after seeing him in "...Wormhole" and in "narration" mode. He can be a little uncomfortably extemporaneous in "...God", and I realized I like my Morgan a tad more scripted. But the show is an interesting one, to me; plus, I have learned things, which is also good.

As to the "Golden Rule"/reciprocity angle, I think it really does boil down to trying to do ones best in whatever role or guise, and avoiding negativity and hurtfulness, whenever possible. Not that I imagine a Cosmic Ledger or anything...but I do "believe" we have the capacity for such magnificent Goodness.

Trouble is, that word, "Goodness", has so many different meanings to different people...

The vast majority of "Priest class" members make very little money (TV evangelists and and some mega-church types being the most obvious exceptions).

They're hawking a product of no value. Anyone making a living doing that is doing pretty well.

I was raised in a secular Jewish household where religion was never an issue. Since the age of 9 or so, I've been an atheist -- no, make that an antitheist. While I would never mock another person's beliefs just to start an argument, I think religion, on the whole, does more harm than good.
