Someone has voted as Christian. Why did this person choose it over Athiesm or other faiths? Step up!
Uh, no, we're not going to be demanding explanations about people's belief systems. If someone wants to talk about their beliefs, then that's their prerogative, but they should also be allowed to just vote in the poll anonymously if they want to. Sometimes religion (or the lack thereof) is a very personal thing and people don't want to feel like they'll be given the third degree or have to justify themselves for it.

Also, nothing negative has been said in the thread thus far, but let's remember to be non-judgmental and respectful on this topic. Thank you.

Anyway, to answer your poll question, I am an atheist.

I don't think people choose to be a theist or an atheist, as I don't think you consciously beliefs. However people do choose how to follow their beliefs.

I'm a Catholic but I dont typically talk about my religion on the Internet so I'll leave it at that.

I think it's unfortunate that this poll specifies atheism as an option but not agnosticism.

I'm ethnically Jewish, and went to Hebrew School enough to get Bar Mitzvah'ed, but got kind of hung up on the whole 'faith in a higher power' aspect of religion. Figuring out I was gay probably didn't help in that regard.

So yeah, I tend to call myself Agnostic, occasionally leaning towards Atheistic.

I'd count agnosticism as an aspect of atheism.

I am an atheist. A secular humanist.
Reason - I have never seen any evidence of a god.
The very same here. The present state of the planet seems to me to prove that point beyond any doubt. No deity could stand by and watch their work getting ruined by morons.

That is assuming that the diety you are speaking of is a creator God. Even if there was a creator God once doesn't mean it is still around.

As for agnostism - I am an agnostic atheist. Some people are agnostic theists.
