What one thing do you love about Voyager today?

I'm curious if one inspired the other, or if it's a fluke.

I am in love with this meme. :rommie::rommie::rommie:

That they have found each other as the result of Janeway's choice. Making the best out of incredible odds. They're a family they'd never be had they stayed in AQ. Torres and Chakotay and co. Might not be alive, seven wouldn't be liberated, the doctor mining with other mark ones . Etc...

And of course a shout out to Janeway and the theme song :adore:

The theme song is awesome, but....what I love most about the show is the Doctor. Dudes spouting snarky one-liners at everyone are always, always my favourite thing about any given tv show, book or film. Bonus point if the dude in question is a Magnificent Bastard. Which the Doctor totally is. He tricked the potating potatoes beautifully, after all.

I liked the "it takes a village" approach that the crew took for Naomi when her mother died. It really made me like Neelix a lot more too.

Unless I missed something, Samantha didn't actually die, though she did disappear. No, I would have to say that for me it was Briefings with Neelix. It combined the frothiness of Regis and Kathy Lee with the hard-hitting investigative topicality of O'Reilly vintage Inside Edition. :techman:

Samantha didn't die. She ended up in the Shuttle And Torpedo Building Team!

Because that department always had a lot of work to do, Naomi was left on her own most of the time. For reasons unknown, she was never considered to be a member of the Shuttle And Torpedo Building Team.

The opening credits are nice, I agree. Even the out of scale shot of Voyager coasting past the planets' rings doesn't really bother me, because of a) artistic license and b) it just looks so nice.

Season 4 and 5. They were the high water mark for VOY. Seven of Nine's addition help define the show.

The ship interior, the LCARS graphics, the camaraderie, the humor, Janeway's strength (though a stronger Chakotay would not have diminished that), her vulnerability, the (somewhat familiar) aliens, and the crew's efficiency and excellence, passions and failings.

The show is entertaining without getting too dark or moody, it actually uses the color palette, the space 'splosions worked nicely, and the ship movements were choreographed very well.

If I could serve anywhere in the Fed, it would be on Voyager. Seems like a place you'd want to live and work. The Enterprise D was too anodyne, DS9 too dark and cold, and the NX-01, while neat and gadgety, was just too vulnerable. Kirk's Enterprise too jangling, and the refits seemed nice, but not Voyager nice.

I fear we'll never see the likes of an optimistic, colorful sci fi future again. Now people seem so dark and broody, like Batman Begins and BSG. IMO we take ourselves too seriously these days, and our entertainments and moral quandaries are far too articulate for simple escapism.

Seconded (I would've mentioned him, but the topic says "what ONE thing do you love about Voyager today?"

I will forever love the Kazon.

This.

Glad to see that I'm not the only person who can appreciate the Kazon. I love everything about their society, and I personally consider the fact that some people think they're 'low-brow Klingons' to be the perfect compliment to the species and the way they were used.

I kinda like the Kazon too. I like that there was this other species that they rebelled against and stole all their technology, and that's how they got the ships the use. I like that they at least tried to have an ongoing story with Seska defecting, and that other traitor that Neelix ended up catching. They're one of the reasons I tend to prefer early season Voyager, as heavily flawed as it usually was.

I'm feeling the love for Tom and B'Elanna today. I was watching Voyager yesterday and it got me thinking again about how they are one of the most naturally progressed and developed pairing in Trek. I easily believe their relationship and it's progression. It's also not at all creepy and weird like some Trek romances are.

They are probably my favorite Trek couple to be honest. I love Kira and Odo but their ending was not ideal. Tom and B'Elanna make it to the end!!

Captain Kathryn> I wasn't thrilled by it but that's because the first season made it look like belanna and Chakotay went waaaaay back and might explore now that it's a new playing field. Then they threw him on a planet with the Captain. Grown, I can now appreciate belanna and Tom now.

BTW OP You'll note most of us can't narrow it down to one thing :-) I'm thinking up a few more.

Season 4 Janeway hair.

I now enjoy Death wish. At fourteen years old it seemed dry and slow paced for me. I was also upset at all the jabs at Janeway's capacity to captain. It seemed beaten to death in the 90's with the men vs women at work crap. I didn't want it over used on my escape.
