What games are you playing currently?

I've started playing Metal Gear Solid V on PS3. It runs fine and looks fine, its definitely a good port and works well on PS3. The game play is pretty good so far, I'm not too far into it. I watched a 2 1/2 minute Ground Zeroes recap so I wouldn't have to spend an extra $10 at Gamestop to get that expensive demo/prologue, and it really was all I needed to see to know what happened in GZ.

I know the story (which is a bit part of the MGS experience for me) isn't great in this game, but hopefully the more open world will be fun to compensate for that. Kiefer Sutherland isn't very good as Snake, and I hate that Kojima took the "Zelda" approach to the main character in this game. I don't consider the character to be an "extension" of me as a player, I consider him a well established character who I've gone on a journey with in MGS III, so the mostly Zelda approach is lame. That said, I know its not as big a deal as it could have been because I got hugely spoiled on the "big twist". Still, I don't like the voice change (when I can't see the faces and Ocelot and Snake are talking I can barely tell when the voice I'm hearing is Kiefer Snake or Ocelot). But the gameplay is fun, and if it stays that way the whole time I'm sure I'll keep enjoying the game.

I'm only 4 or 5 years behind the loop, I started playing Skyrim today for the first time, of course it's a massively popular game, I have only played for maybe 3 hours up to this point, It seems pretty fun, I like that I'm not locked into anything, but there is a sense of consequences for what you do in the world (I've never played Oblivion or Morrowind, though I have friends who swear they are the ultimate games.) The game feels huge, like I could get lost in it, hell, it feels more like what I wanted "No Mans Sky" to be....more of a living breathing thing....

Prob an obscure one to most of ya but I've downloaded Battlefleet Gothic: Armada from Steam. This is a repro of the original tabletop wargame Battlefleet Gothic from Games Workshop, set in their grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe, where the brutal and oppressive Imperium of Man is our race's only hope against the even more brutal and oppressive forces of Chaos, the alien Eldar and Orks and many other foes (but only those three in the game so far). DLC adds the space forces of the Imperial Space Marines, who keep their fleets separate from the main Imperial Navy and use their own ship types and will soon add another alien race, the Tau.

I've mainly been leveling an Imperial fleet in solo skimishes against the AI - I got three missions into the campaign and lost the "defend the convoy against the Orks" mission so put it aside until I understand the mechanics a bit better. The game could use a truly custom solo match creator - you get to select mission type, enemy and points value (as you rank up your admiral you gain Renown, which is used to buy more ships or upgrade existing ones - you can use any undamaged ships for the battle but they have a points value), however the points value system could do with more choice - I also play the RPG Rogue Trader, which has your PCs commanding one or two smaller ships (usually light cruisers), and a 150pt match choice would be good for creating the types of battle that go on there.

They also need to add a screenshot command, because the cutscenes are beautiful. And balance is a bit of an issue, but that only really affects multiplayer. I still hate fighting orks though - their ships take huge amounts of damage to bring down and the buggers keep trying to ram you, which on most ships will destroy or cripple them. Getting better at dodging but most of my victories don't get my ships much experience as the orks tend to break and run rather than get blown up.

All in all, a worthy expedition into the Warhammer 40K arena.

I'm playing Final Fantasy X Remaster in preparation for XV. I didn't own playstation when it came out so it has been a "dream game" (game I sometimes think about despite not playing it) for such a long time. So this is the first time.. It's obviously a lot clunkier than in my dreams since so much time has passed and we have games like Witcher 3 (which I'm also playing), but I love the FEEL. Music, cutscenes and so on. Turn-based combat is lovely too.

You've listed the game's main strong points there, basically. I'm not returning to it since I know it'll be too clunky and will ruin my great memories, but I'm glad people can get into it now, like you!

Ork ships are pretty squishy regarding their components, and they are often on fire after taking a few long range hits.
However if they can ram you successfully and are build for that, they dont really care if they have no functioning guns left.

If you have long range weapons or hangar bays (e.g. Chaos) kiting them to death is a very successfull tactic.
If you actually brawl with them, make sure you don't face them head on with all your ships, their rear armour is really weak, while their front is pretty tough.

Yeah, I'm getting better now I bought most of my ships the improved long-range targeting for macro-cannons, means I can still do damage whilst staying out of (effective) ork gun range (apart from Zapp Kannonz). Targeting their engines helps too. I got past the third campaign mission eventually by getting lucky with initial enemy deployment relative to my spread-out transports and saving their max plasma burn until absolutely necessary - the previous mission I figured I'd hit it as often as possible to get them across the map, but it meant I was out just as an ork raider went for a ram.

Gotta face them again for a cruiser clash in the campaign now though, with only a few ship choices and fewer upgrades.

I just completed a replay of Super Metroid. I took my time, finished the game in 5 hours and 5 minutes, used the X-Ray scope to try to find as many collectibles as I could... and finished with a 73% for collectibles.

I started and finished the Cod: Advanced Warfare SP campaign in the last few days.

I spent the last few hours playing the Battlefield 1 beta.

I downloaded and played the Battlefield 1 beta for a little while today. It was pretty fun, the only thing I really wanted to try that I couldn't find was the planes.

^ Maybe you have to spawn directly into a plane. That's how I ended up piloting one once. Because I haven't seen a runway anywhere on the map.

I finished Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy to 100% on my xbox 360 this evening. There are five achievements left to unlock, but I won't get those, ever.

I'm playing the rented PS4 version of Heavy Rain and I'm not that far in to it but I'm already thinking I'll send it back. I've played it through on the PS3 before so I know how it goes and I'm not sure I can be bothered to keep going with this playthrough. There's also Beyond with it and I'm giving that a go before sending them both back.

Metal Gear Solid V has been a fun game to play, but it takes forever to progress. It has so many side ops, and side ops tend to be more fun then the main story missions, so while I've made a good deal of story progress it feels like I play three hours of side ops for every one hour of actual story. I've been meaning to get to Asura's Wrath on PS3 or the first Deus Ex (which I just got off GOG), but it looks like MGS V will be my main game for awhile.
