What Famous Guest Star Should Have Been On ST, But Wasn't?

haha love those 'shops!!

It would have been amazing to see Shatner and Heston chewing scenery together! You know Shatner would have pulled the big guns out in terms of his acting style when confronted with Heston's bombast!

Some of the other Captain candidates could have been great for guest spots as Captains of some of the other Connies. Lloyd Bridges, especially.

Supporting wise, I like the idea of the Mission: Impossible guys. Graves and Morris, especially. Morris has red-shirt engineer all over him

As much as I enjoy the ''what if?'' aspects of this thread, the truth of the matter is that up until very recently, it was considered career suicide for any Hollywood actor with an active movie career to ''lower'' themselves and appear on television. So while its great fun to imagine John Wayne, Heston et. al in any possible guest-star roles, they still remain squarely in the domain of ''what if?''...

But on that totally impossible casting detour, how about:

1) For TOS's fourth season, seeing the success of their space-hippies episode, Kirk and crew end up on the pleasure-planet of Risa, and guest aliens Elvis (in Bill Theiss silver lamé outfit) and Frank Sinatra fight over Orion slave girl Ann-Margret!!:rommie:

2) An unexplained murder on Alpha Centaurii has Kirk investigate why Anthony Perkins is so bizarre, and he puts his patented moves on local bad girl Tippy Hedren, while McCoy falls for seemingly wholesome Grace Kelly...

3) Kirk REALLY channels his mojo on the planet of super-machismo, when he has to contend with mortal enemies Sean Connery, Steve McQueen and Robert Mitchum!!

4) Also for the 4th season, Fred Freiberger decides to punish Shatner and Nimoy for their hare-brained attempts at album-recording, and comissions an episode where Kirk and Spock land on a planet where the only method of communication is by singing!! Guest-stars include Dick Van Dyke, Julie Andrews, and the returning Elvis...

5) Having Kirk's mind transferred into a woman's body wasn't enough, now Kirk and Jerry Lewis (playing his Nutty Professor icon) switch places. The catch is, they are on a planet of sex-starved nymphos and Kirk strikes out constantly!!!:rommie: Guest-starring Raquel Welch, Honor Blackman, Yvonne Craig, Linda harrison (Planet of the Apes) and Angie Dickinson... (with Gene Roddenberry providing casting assistance:) )

Ann-Margret on Star Trek . . . :adore:

I’d prefer her in her natural skin color, though. Don’t know if she’d look good in green.

I still find it slightly astonishing that Bruce Dern never managed a guest spot...

Phyllis Diller as the most hideous alien woman ever seen in the ST universe. No special makeup is required since she looks hideous enough in real life.

Y'know, now that you mention it, Dern would've been perfect for Lazarus. So would Dennis Hopper, now that I think about it...

Jack Nicholson might also have been good for the role of Lazarus. In 1966 Jack Nicholson did 4 episodes of the "Dr. Kildare" tv series, 1 episode of the "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" tv series, and 2 episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" tv series (1 in 1966 and the other in 1967), according to his IMDB Profile. Here is the link.

I would have liked to have seen Jonathan Winters or Don Rickles in TOS, possibly as Cyrano Jones in the "The Trouble with Tribbles" episode.

These are quite possibly the most terrifying pictures to wake up to on a Saturday morning ...

Actually, now that I think about it, you could replace the tribble in Dern's coffee cup with Diller.

I know it would be like mixing Saurian Brandy with Sour Apple Juice, but what if there was an episode where the Starship Enterprise encountered the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space? Maybe Spock and Chekov could have given the Robinsons the correct course to finally return home. Nah!!! Now that I think about it, a story that combined top notch ST with schlock LIS would probably have been the worst ST episode ever made.

There was a 3-part storyline in DC's second Star Trek comic, "Return of the Worthy" by Peter David and Bill Mumy, that essentially did that. The Enterprise crew encountered a band of legendary lost alien explorers who were thinly veiled versions of the Jupiter 2 crew (the leader was even named Catalano, which was Guy Williams's real last name).
