What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

So, I'm confused. How are these controversial? ;) :p
I found a way at least some of it can be controversial.

HotRod said anything with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy is inherently better than any other Star Trek. I can understand the sentiment in general... but when you look beyond the general, and you take it literally, to the letter, it can mean "And the Children Shall Lead" is inherently better than "The Best of Both Worlds".

I don't think it was meant to be taken so literally, but there you are. I found something that can be controversial if you want to take it to its most insane extreme.

I can go further still: that means the Kelvin films are better than the TNG films or series or spin-offs.

Which, I kind of agree with in the TNG films...

The best of the TNG films, First Contact, is a mixed bag, to put it kindly. It's fun in some places, but it's dodgy in others. Basically, it's a romp.

Half of the TOS films (I, II, and IV) manage to be more than that.

The TOS and the Kelvin films actually felt like fun and exciting films. Even TMP has a grand feeling to it that is second to none in the franchise.

The TNG films always felt a little flat. Like they were second tier films. Plus, more often than not, they were kinda dull. There was no sense of adventure or excitement.

Fundamentally, Kirk and Spock were movie characters in a way that Picard and Data never were.

The TNG movies were fine, but except for the budget and scale (to some extent) they weren't anything more than we'd seen for seven years on TV.

They also came out so close to the show - I'm pretty sure I saw both Generations and First Contact before I'd even seen All Good Things, as the BBC broadcasts were a couple of years behind.

Whereas the TOS gang had a decade to build up the anticipation, and for many viewers they were established as movie characters before they were on TV.

There was a reason why ST09 was essentially a big-screen adaptation of the original show, the characters existed in the cultural zeitgeist and transcended the rest of the franchise. They still do.

And Voyager remains its biggest disappointment.

This is probably something that can actually be quantified.

Which series made the least amount of money? Which was the lowest rated? Which one underperformed the most from the network's point of view?

That would be the biggest disappointment

Voyager is the greatest disappointment in the franchise because it was the show with the most potential for new and interesting storytelling, but they threw it all away and became TNG-lite.
