Well, season 1 was all about taking the rights of AI seriously and Picard actually becoming one!!

I doubt it. They basically did the evil AI story from season two Disco and didn't improve on it. I highly doubt that the showrunners are interested in that story beyond having a big, epic, galaxy-ending baddie.

With VHS-Copy Picard, TPTB will no doubt have a new high-stakes, galaxy-ending adventure for season two that I'll be surprised if they reference the AI storyline at all.

Yes, but imagine actually putting your money where your mouth is? That's what Picard did. Plus almost everyone else seemed to be FOR the ban, and an entire society (the Roms) were against AI in any way.

I think Season 2 will be the perfect opportunity to explore this a little bit more.

Well, we still don't know whether the big AIs were interested in such extinction. Perhaps they just wanted to offer a tentacleshake across the portal? The extinction business comes from the Romulans, whom the Advanced Synths don't seem to trust much. Soji might have seen little practical risk in her actions, which weren't taken with the explicated goal of ridding the Synths from the bane of organic bullies; if she or Sutra had such a goal, it was at best implicit. And being implicit in vague prophecies isn't all that noteworthy.

With the romulans it was a vague prophecy but with Sutra it was a clear message of the destruction of organics. Then Soji was trying to get Picard to sort of approve or forgive it with the logic of sacrifice question. If Picard hadn't given that compelling speech she would have been OK with going ahead and wiping out all other life to save theirs.

That's why I thought putting Oh in the golem would have been more dramatic. Would she have gone crazy(er)? Would she have had to turn in her Zhat Vash membership badge? Of course that would have required more time to explore than a short season would allow.

Maybe because, if the story played out differently and Oh was mortally wounded on the planet, Picard would have insisted they save her?

And again, Picard didn't get a vote in being put into the golem. If the story didn't have PIcard's brain abnormality kill him in the end, they put Oh in there and she has to live (or not) as an Android.

Would she put a phaser to her head like that Zhat Vash initiate? Would she go bonkers like Auntie Ramdha? Or would she seek revenge in S2? Tune in next season to find out!

I don't see how the 'Picard Golem' twist is really a statement on AI at all - his intellect and consciousness still reflects his human experience. The body itself is for all intents and purposes another human body. To me this was one of those developments that I suspect was cause for alot of self congratulation in the echo chamber of the writer's room but doesn't really stand much scrutiny as anything more than a twist for a twist's sake.

I personally like it because Picard is able to take that experience and show what is possible with the synths. I think it is the kind of transhumanism style that Trek has eschewed for the longest time and they are finally actually exploring technology and its implications.

It seemed more like they want to sidestep the implications by making the body exactly the same as it was before. It felt like a TNG style reset button, like that time worf was disabled by the foam barrel falling on him and then back to normal by the end.

Starfleet wants to disassemble Picard and Riker must defend his rights in court.

Picard must save the crew after an alien knocks all organics unconscious on the ship.

In the production artwork for this story, they used catoms in the creation of the Golem. Would people's opinions be different if Picard was uploaded into such a body? It looks as if producers had second thoughts and changed it to an organic/replicant style body.
