What are the abbreviations for shows?

SFA is a little bothersome because it’s not STD for DSC or STE for ENT or STV for VOY or STP for PIC. Still liking ACA…
I'm pretty sure Paramount has sold Starfleet Academy tshirts and the like in the past with "SFA" emblazoned on the front. Might be a Berenstain bears situation though, I have a decade-old one somewhere and can't for the life of be remember if it's "Starfleet Academy" or "SFA" on the front.

SFA stands for Starfleet Academy not Star Trek Academy. If it were STA, then I could see the concern. So, yeah, I'm calling it SFA.

Yup! I don’t remember one with SFA though.

*WAITS* Yes. 🤣

I always say TNG or DS9, I talk about those a lot. But I would say Voyager.

There's no real consistency for me. Unless by accident I have the system does it save me time? TOS, TNG, DS9 all three words. Voyager is one word.

I digress.
Right, saying aloud the abbreviation is a whole nother matter. I typically only spell out the abbreviation if the show title is too long. I would say TOS, DS9, and TNG, but then also Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery, Picard, Prodigy, etc. SNW is too clunky to spell out so I go for Strange New Worlds there. Some of the lesser watched properties I also usually give the whole title for — The Animated Series, the Section 31 movie, etc. I imagine in the future I’ll type SFA and say about Academy. I also type TAS and S31 while I say the full name.

I'll jump in too. When referring to the shows in real life, I typically say:

Classic
Next Gen
DS9
Voyager
Enterprise
Discovery
Picard
Lower Decks
Prodigy
Strange New Worlds

Looking at them in that order I guess I subconsciously stopped shortening them at some point. :D

What I call them, IRL:

TOS --> "The Original Star Trek", "The '60s Star Trek", or just "Star Trek".
TNG --> "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Next Gen", or also just "Star Trek".
DS9 --> "Deep Space Nine" or "DS9"
VOY --> "Voyager"
PIC --> "Picard" (otherwise, see TNG)
Movies --> "Star Trek" followed by the number or the sub-title, it depends.

The others haven't come up, so technically I haven't called the rest anything IRL.

I think "nuTrek" will stay, the same way "modern Art" still stands for the early 20th century...

... because "Kurtzman" Trek sounds stupid and "JJTrek" or "streaming Trek" are also awkward and not comprehensive.
If DISCO/LDS/SNW are all "New Trek", then when we hit another 'generation' of Trek series, will they then be "Old New Trek", or "New Old Trek"? I suppose NOT flows better than ONT.
I won't know for sure until we get there, and it depends what names take off, but right now I'm leaning towards calling everything from the 2009 Film up to whenever Alex Kurtzman is finished the "3rd Wave of Star Trek". And whatever starts up afterwards the 4th Wave. That would make TOS and the first six movies the 1st Wave and TNG through ENT the 2nd Wave.

... except for of course that the TOS movies ran in parallel to TNG and even DS9 (and TMP is much closer in style to TNG than to TOS) - so I would definitely put all the TOS movies into the 2nd wave.

... And that "3rd wave" has a certain ring to it...

I know. I was there. :p

I could go with either way, I was going with the idea that the 1st and 2nd Wave overlapped, but we can put the TOS Movies in with the 2nd Wave.

Turns out I put the TOS Movies into the 2nd Wave in a post of mine from 2019.

EDITED TO ADD: I just clicked on that link of yours. I was thinking of the futurist Alvin Toffler's Third Wave.
