According to Larry Nemecek, the preferred abbreviation on staff was VGR for Voyager.

- I use LD but LDS is fine
- I used to use VGR but long ago went to VOY
- I’ve been using ACA for Academy but SFA could work
- LEG or LGC work for me but LGY kinda doesn’t
- I usually refer to the Kelvin universe or the JJ-verse and don’t abbreviate it
- I break up the periods as TOS, the Berman Era or 90s Trek, and contemporary Trek. nuTrek doesn’t work for me as it will surely shift again and then what do you call it?

It's not perfect, but there isn't really a better three-letter abbreviation available.
ACA would make sense if the title was Star Trek: Academy but IMO doesn't make sense for the two word title and let's face it it's pretty common in the fandom to use SF as an abbreviation for Starfleet (rather than IMO UFPS or UES as applicable for the whole organisation and a further shortening to S* for individual components like SI or SCE)
Oh that’s interesting. I hadn’t realized that it was called Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. I thought it was in fact Star Trek: Academy. SFA makes more sense now.
Sorry, but, that's not going to stop me from writing "VOY".
Personally, as long as it's clear what someone is referring to, I don't really care what abbreviation they use, and I don't think it matters.
I would never write "STD" (I prefer "DISCO")*, but... meh.
* - "DSC" and "DIS" are also fine.
I think "nuTrek" will stay, the same way "modern Art" still stands for the early 20th century...
... because "Kurtzman" Trek sounds stupid and "JJTrek" or "streaming Trek" are also awkward and not comprehensive.
Personally, I think LDS is ideal for Lower Decks. The show made a lot of callbacks, so having its acronym itself being a deep-cut callback is perfect!
I don't think LDS is an acronym. Which leads me to a follow on question - which of those are acronyms.
I say TOS as an acronym. Voy. Ent. Pic also work. But in actual speaking, I would probably just use TOS and not abbreviate the others.

By definition an acronym is something that can pronounce like LASER, RADAR, NASA, UESPA.
If it can't be pronounced, then it's called initialism. PPG, NGO, KGB, UFP.

From a word definition standpoint, this topic is about initialism. However, humans don't act or speak with dictionary vocabularies, so we tend to lump all this in as acronyms the same way people habitually refer to all copy machines as Xerox or all face tissues as Kleenex or feel the need to redundantly say "machine" as in "ATM machine".

Wait, you say "toss"? I spell it out, "Tee Oh Ess". But then again, I rarely (if ever) would say any of these in conversation other than saying the actual name.

I always say TNG or DS9, I talk about those a lot. But I would say Voyager.
There's no real consistency for me. Unless by accident I have the system does it save me time? TOS, TNG, DS9 all three words. Voyager is one word.
I digress.
