Greetings one and all. I discovered Trek in syndication back in the 70s as a kid. (Yes, I'm old.) I've been following it ever since. Spent many years as a musician, a writer, and then fell into the medical field, Finally I ended up owning and operating my own business, which while successful, I decided to close about a year ago. I decided it was time for a change, so I moved to a new state, looking for a fresh start. Of course a global pandemic would hit after doing that. Good times.
Star Trek has been with me throughout it all. With few exceptions, it's been a solitary pursuit, though I was lucky to have a couple friends and a sibling who shared my passion for it.
Whatever the iteration of the show, I have found something to like. Most of the "modern" shows (TNG onwards) were slow starters, and yet I watched all of them, even when they were bad, like a person rooting for their sports team. They all found their footing though.( Some more than others, maybe!)
I used to be active on some message boards in the mid to late 2000s. Then the JJ movies arrived and all hell broke loose. It seemed like a fundamental shift in the fandom. One had to be either for or against....and depending on one's opinion, someone would be happy to reply with "you don't understand TRUE Star Trek!" It was like witnessing a religion fracture into sub-groups, all of whom were convinced theirs was the true Trek! Most distressing!
Disillusioned, I retreated from fandom for the most part. Over the last several years however, I have lurked here quite a bit, and enjoyed reading some rather engaging discussion being had.
With time on my hands, I figured why not re-engage in some nerd talk?
Shutting up now, and thanks for listening. LL+P!
