This is off topic I know, but I have to admit to having some contempt for him for being involved with a remake. I really wish these writers would come up with something ORIGINAL.

I agree, too many scifi remakes these days

Exactly. Remakes don't matter. Prequels don't matter. Original stories don't matter. Do any of these you wish, just do it well.

I don't know anything about Roswell and Carnavale, but the others in my opinion are dreadful.

"Carnivale" is one of the greatest shows I have ever seen - go take a look and say that Moore got no talent!

If someone wants a clue why DS-9 went serial, then take a look at Carnavale. That guy cannot write an ending to save his life.

Moore is a much better writer now in other shows than he was on Trek. Trek seemed to limit him somewhat, now he's rebelling against that template mentality.

But yes, he did write some of the best Trek

I love Ron Moore...and I love the Klingons the way he wrote them in DS9. In fact, the only Klingon I *didn't* really care for in DS9 was Worf.

So yeah...I think Ron Moore's contributions to Trek are substantial.

However, I will say that Peter Allan Fields is up there in my book also - he wrote some excellent episodes.

Snarky remarks aside, DS9 'went serial' for alot of reasons, but this isn't one of them.

In fact, if anyone was behind the drive to make DS9 into an arc-based show, it was Ira Behr, who was the one who fought with Rick Berman over the issue of arc-based storytelling on a fairly regular basis.

And fortunately for DS9, he won - at least a percentage of the time.

Either that, or he flat out ignored Berman. Which works for us too. :D

True that.

Some of my favorite TNG episodes came from writers who went to DS9. Ira Behr(Yesterday's Enterprise),Ron Moore(Sins of the Father),Robert Hewitt wolfe(A fistful of Datas) etc...

As far as best writer of Star Trek I couldn't pickl just one. I'd have to do it by series.

TOS:Gene coon. Hands down. The Klingons, the prime directive, the spock/bones relationship etc..

TNG: Michael Pillar. Brought in an entire new writing staff and helped write some of the best shows.

DS9: Real tough because there are so many.I think I have to go with Ira Behr based on Way of the Warrior,The Jeh'adar,Homefront,In Purgatory's Shadow,Far Beyond the Stars, the siege of Ar-558,and What you leave behind. What I liked most was he was never afraid to question the old TNG formula eg: The federation always being right.

Don't forget that Piller was involved with DS9 too. He was the co-creator, he wrote "Emissary", he was the one who convinced Behr to come back to Trek (he left after TNG S3) and be on DS9. He created the Dominion, and he was the one who left Behr in charge when he left.

Too bad they didn't listen to what he had to say over how VOY should be done...

Duly noted. Picking the best writer from DS9 is like asking me my favorite Beatle. I liked them all.

Let's see ... he wrote these great TNG stories:

"The Defector"
"Yesterday's Enterprise"
"All Good Things..."

Not much more than that. The rest of his IMDB credits show he was either "Executive Story Editor" or "co-producer" on he other episodes (a few other "written by" ones are there).

Moore didn't write "Yesterday's Enterprise" on his own, that was a collaborative effort between Piller, Behr, Moore, Hans Beimler and Richard Manning with the original idea coming from Trent Ganino and Eric Stillwell.

Also, he and Braga together did "All Good Things..."
