Vulcans' new (Trek XI spoiler)

Since their planet got destroyed in Star trek 2009, I'm wondered what's new planet will be looking like in next film? Is it going to be another reddish planet or more earth-like planet?

^ I think the statute of limitations is about over for anyone loggin in to a Trek BBS about the major plot points of the biggest Trek film of all time. I was thinking Spock could get his dream of reunification if he approached Romulus with the idea.

Re: Vulcans' new homeworld

Edited the title 'cause why the heck not. Since the thread is now marked as a spoiler thread, no tags are needed for spoilers for the movie. (Other spoilers should still be tagged.)

I'm guessing their new homeworld will be a terraformed red-orange world in the 40 Eridani A system. This new homeworld will bring Vulcan much closer to the safety found at the heart of the Federation than their old star system at the far edge of the galaxy (near Delta Vega!).

Wait...I thought that was just sloppy writing?

Mars would be awesome. Two cultures central to the federation in one system! On the other hand, doesn't sound very wise.. Spock was originally conceptualized as a Martian, wasn't he?

The Romulans of this time period would be too untrustworthy to parlay with like that. And with Vulcans' numbers drastically reduced, they would just be snapped up like a light snack.

But the issue of how the Romulans might capitalize on the situation certainly is an interesting one...the Vulcans are going to be extremely dependent on Starfleet protection for the foreseeable future.

Letting Vulcans colonize Mars would be awesome, but somehow I see them as wanting their own star system. Humans smell funny. No doubt they'll find some suitably desolate and volcanic chunk of rock elsewhere.

What's the point in doing that? Romulus only has another 200+ years itself before the star goes super nova and it goes 'poof' too. I'd pick something with a little more potential.

Romulus doesn't give a shit of Vulcans anyway. They're probably happy it's destroyed. So forget that idea.

Old Spock has plenty of time to figure out what he did wrong, and save Romulus in this reality.

But most likely some pissed off Vulcans will blow it up before he gets the chance. Hey maybe Young Spock will be one of them. Bad temper that guy has.... :rommie:

Hmmm, maybe the Vulcans can start an intergalactic fast-food joint then everyone will become dependent on them, needing to get latest swag from whatever is popular in that time, and by the time everyone realizes whats going on it will be to late, Vulcans will have everyone eating out of their hands.(or they can settle mars)(whatever)

Or maybe old spock and new spock will help eachother out, and in 139 or so years new spock will go back and save vulcan resetting the timeline to the prime universe!

I'm still wondering what caused the supernova, given the odd information associated with it-

1) It threatens the galaxy.
2) It's unexpected.
3) It apparently consumes Romulus faster than expected.

It just doesn't sound like a natural event at that point.

I actually had an idea about that. According to the countdown comics, which aren't considered canon, but they are part of this theory so I'm mentioning it, The Narada was in the Hobus system mining decalithium when it went nova. It was also said that decalithium is what the vulcan science directorate used to make the red mater. Now given the fact that it's the vulcans make everything complicated, we can assume that it was a detailed process using one high yeild energy wave or another to convert it into the red mater.

Now red mater creates a singularity that draws in mater and energy, basic physics that we already know about. What if the hobus nova changed the decalithium in a different way, causing it to spew mater and energy? like a white hole? That could "fan the flames" so to speak causeing it to act drastically different then any nova or super nova on record.

Before I speak about Vulcan, I'd like to say for the record, I am a fan who was not happy with the new Trek movie. A correction, I was a movie goer who wasn't happy with the new Trek movie. I have enjoyed Trek for many years and have enjoyed it without concerning myself about continuity, the color of warp nacelles or even cared that much when they tried to 'sex it up' in Voyager and Enterprise. I always felt grateful for the stories and the way it inspired my imagination. I didn't get any sense of wonder from the new film. It did things I felt were unnecessary, avoidable and the choices that were made felt rather soulless. I LOVE, and have spent money, on all of JJ Abrams TV series on DVD. I had always, and suppose still do, visionary and brave. So I was very confused at how much I disliked his direction. The shakey camera work, fast paced editing and what felt like 2 hours of explosion after meaningless explosion). I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it wasn't the director's fault, perhaps it was the producer and studio execs direction and disregard. The film, for me, was JUST a generic action flick, not a movie worthy of the franchise - And my arguement is, it needed to be something special. I don't mind a new cast, I didn't need Nimoy, let alone Shatner (!). I just wanted to something that would be TREK. That would mean something, and stoke our imaginations again.

Anyway, rant over.
When they do another film, they need to show the plight of the Vulcans, have some sort of concequence to the meaningless destruction of Vulcan.

I REALLY LOVE the idea of Vulcans settling on our own red planet, Mars. I just like the poetry of it. And sort of full circle, if Spock had initially been conceived as a Vulcan.

I can't tell you how much I like the idea of them settling on Mars. I know Mars colony has already been mentioned in Trek Lore, but how wonderful if Vulcans, the ones who helped us into the galaxy, would then find sanctuary in our solar system.
