Before I speak about Vulcan, I'd like to say for the record, I am a fan who was not happy with the new Trek movie. A correction, I was a movie goer who wasn't happy with the new Trek movie. I have enjoyed Trek for many years and have enjoyed it without concerning myself about continuity, the color of warp nacelles or even cared that much when they tried to 'sex it up' in Voyager and Enterprise. I always felt grateful for the stories and the way it inspired my imagination. I didn't get any sense of wonder from the new film. It did things I felt were unnecessary, avoidable and the choices that were made felt rather soulless. I LOVE, and have spent money, on all of JJ Abrams TV series on DVD. I had always, and suppose still do, visionary and brave. So I was very confused at how much I disliked his direction. The shakey camera work, fast paced editing and what felt like 2 hours of explosion after meaningless explosion). I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it wasn't the director's fault, perhaps it was the producer and studio execs direction and disregard. The film, for me, was JUST a generic action flick, not a movie worthy of the franchise - And my arguement is, it needed to be something special. I don't mind a new cast, I didn't need Nimoy, let alone Shatner (!). I just wanted to something that would be TREK. That would mean something, and stoke our imaginations again.
Anyway, rant over.
When they do another film, they need to show the plight of the Vulcans, have some sort of concequence to the meaningless destruction of Vulcan.
I REALLY LOVE the idea of Vulcans settling on our own red planet, Mars. I just like the poetry of it. And sort of full circle, if Spock had initially been conceived as a Vulcan.
I can't tell you how much I like the idea of them settling on Mars. I know Mars colony has already been mentioned in Trek Lore, but how wonderful if Vulcans, the ones who helped us into the galaxy, would then find sanctuary in our solar system.
