Voyager season 3

... Why, thank you, Sophie! It is good to have me back, is it not?

Have you ever seen TOS's AMOK TIME? I only saw it later than BLOOD FEVER but that episode explained quite a lot of things. To me, BLOOD FEVER is like a more "modern" version of that story. A kind of continuation ... under different circumstances ... but a nice reflection on what happened to Spock more than a hundred years earlier.
Oh, yes. I’m a TOS girl from way back. Spock was my first fictional character crush. In Amok Time it was that Spock had to mate or die. The fighting hadn’t been done in a long time, but that becomes the out. The trauma of thinking he’d killed Kirk. A hundred years later, yeah, I suppose they’ve tried to develop solutions for Vulcans on starships, and so you get the meditation solution. Though, Vulcans had been in space long before they ever contacted humans and Spock didn’t seem to know about it… Star Trek was never the best at continuity or thinking out the ramifications of concepts…

I like the Vorik character. I was glad he didn’t go for the hologram idea. Considering a big part of Vulcan mating is the mind meld, how do you bond with a force field and a computer program? And one that someone else programmed? Ewwwwww! Is all I’ll say about that. In thinking about this, I can see how the B’Elanna twist was appealing to the writers, so they could make the problem end up being about B’Elanna and Tom.

In S7 in Repression, we (surprise!) find out there is a female Vulcan Maquis on board. How about if in the end, Vorik actually did mate with a female Vulcan on Voyager, and we actually have a baby Vulcan in so many months… Why did it take 7 years to have the first baby born on Voyager? They thought they would need to be a generational ship. They needed to get busy! Oh well, just rambling.

Monday was the ep when the agents get stuck in a loop where they had to repeat a certain Monday until events were altered that broke the time loop. It's the one when Mulder wakes up to find his water bed has sprung a leak at the beginning.
I do vaguely remember Mulder’s water bed leaking over and over, now that you mention it…

... watched Unity last night and liked it, didn't love it, but I will recant a bit on my previous critique of Beltran's acting since I thought he did a good job in this ep. I thought it was one the more interesting eps so far that featured him anyway, and an interesting ep in its own right. It introduced the Borg to Voyager I believe (this was their first appearance in the series I think?)...Maybe a precursor of things to come?
Yes, I agree with how you assess this episode. Well said! There is no doubt that Beltran is very good at slinking backwards or being wary when he encounters someone he finds creepy or doesn’t trust. (he’ll do this again…) And Chakotay finally gets some action!

It is the first encounter with living former Borg, though they did find the Borg corpse in Blood Fever. And it was a very good precursor to not only Borg space, but also that there could be former drones.

Gkad to have you back too! :techman:
Hey, Lynx! Thanks, alot. When I feel the need to talk VOYAGER, and STAR TREK, in general ... I know where to come to! Because, let me tell you this in the strictest confidence - OK? - I've definitely earned my stripes, on these boards!

Have I ever ...

Yes, absolutely!
Sorry for the type error in my original post. It's corrected now!

Well, I guess I need to pay better attention to the wardrobe details because I missed these uniforms in Learning curve. Good to know there's at least one more ep when they're on display though.
Unfortunately I have no wallpapers for that episode (yet) but here are two pics from Trekcore:

...and I disagree about Tom being the sexiest. ;)
Now, now ... we'll start a war over this if it goes on like this ... Tom is the sexiest man in the galaxy
Well ...to put it more precisely ... the second sexiest man ... after Keanu Reeves ... :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:Oh my, I can't believe that I said that. But Tommyboy is still the love of my life ... it's just that physically Neo is more attractive ...
Okay, time to redirect a little. ..

I love UNITY - surprise, surprise - and yes, the Borg plotline starts with this episode (or with BLOOD FEVER, which is the previous one) and will stay with us till the end of the show. VOY often gets criticized for the overuse of the Borg. While I personally disagree with that - I could have done with three times as many Borg episodes and would still have enjoyed them -, I'd like to hear your perspective on the matter once you get there.
and the chagrin of others
:D:D:D
Who those people might be I wonder. It is apparent from the comments that you are pretty popular on this forum ... so welcome back.
How's the time-travelling going? If you bump into yourself in the street, let us know (but seek out a councillor first ). As one living in a very small country (and never having been to the US) I can't imagine how things might be working in such a huge country with different time zones and all. Still, the biggest dream of mine is to go to New York one day. It'll probably only remain a dream ... but a nice one, I think.
And a portion of those hours will be spent inspecting your wallpapers with a new and dazzlingly white glove ...
Thanks. Tell me which ones you like ... and you can also tell me about the ones that you don't. I won't resent it. Perhaps I might edit some of them - I occasionally do that anyway when after having seen them pretty often, I begin to feel that I am dissatisfied with this or that aspect of the picture.
I like the Vorik character.
I like him, too - and surprise, surprise, doesn't his presence mean a certain continuity on VOY?
As for TOS, I've only seen bits and pieces - I'm really only a VOY fan and to a smaller degree a DS9 fan - but I did watch AMOK TIME twice when I saw how closely related that ep was to BLOOD FEVER. It is an enjoyable ep for me - with most TOS eps I have the feeling that I am watching events in slo-mo.
Why did it take 7 years to have the first baby born on Voyager?
Actually, Naomi Wildman is already born in Season 2.
Also, I can't speak for others, esp. that I'm gay but I strongly suspect that if I were straight and stranded on VOY with a journey of 70+ years ahead, I surely wouldn't want to have a child.

Aha! I do recall those grey jumpsuits in that episode now... the reason it didn't stick in my brain is because thagt's the ep that closes out season 1 that doesn't feel like it should be a season finale episode. It had the feel of a mid-season ep to me when I watched it and then someone here told me it was originally written for earlier in the season and then they shuffled some eps around for some reason.
And it honestly wasn't one of my favorite episodes (though I didn't dislike it), so it just got shoved to back of my brain.

...and Keanu reeves, huh? Hmmm... interesting. He's good-looking imo, but not a guy that makes my loins burn. Beauty is such a subjective thing, ha ha. Have you seen the film River's Edge? It features Keanu in an early role and it's an excellent film imho. Crispin Glover and Dennis Hopper are also in it and both are tremendous. It's one those teen-angst-rebellion-young people trying to find their place in the world films. I recommend it!

I understand that facing a journey of 70+ years they will need more people to replenish the crew. But, if I was going to be the one who was going to have one of those children I would think long and hard. Voyager went through a lot of hardships, alien attacks, people were hurt and killed, the crew has been kidnapped, brainwashed, stranded, and a number of other things. Should a baby be brought into that? In my own life I very much want to have a child one day, but if I was actually on Voyager I don't know if that would be the best environment.

I never saw Henry Starling as a villian. Just a guy trying to make some money and "better mankind"
Really? I saw it differently: He became a villain the moment he stole, denied a ship which had Braxton committed to psych; He kidnapped the doctor; ordered the girl to be got rid of; stole janeway's computer...

Oh, and

Paris is handsome.
I also enjoyed Unity even though it aired not long after Coda which, at the time, made Chakotay look lady wandering to fill his voids. But that perception aside, it is a rewatch for me.

We don't really know if he intentionally did anything to Braxton. But I don't think he set out to be evil, just to make a few bucks and as a side effect better the world with technology. Yes when Voyager showed up and started snooping then he did some bad guy things.

Bad guy things...lol perhaps villain is not only inaccurate but too grand for his weasel self.

Thomas Eugene, Yes, I understand the actor is Jeri Taylor’s son, so had the benefit of getting a recurring role. He played a Vulcan on NexGen’s “Lower Decks” previously. I thought they needed to give Ayala a voice as well, as a friend of Chakotay, since he recurred in the background quite often throughout the series and occasionally said a couple of words.

Interesting what you say about TOS in slo mo. Sometimes I fear they are conditioning the younger generations to expect everything to happen immediately without time for reflection. But I may be wrong. Or as one cynic said, they are preparing us for WWIII...

Re: Naomi, yes, you’re right. I should have said 6 years to conceive a baby on board. (And this is to Sophie7456 as well) It’s all a personal choice, of course. But if they really did think they were going to grow old on that ship, someone needed to start having babies. Of course, part of the problem is that Capt Janeway has a way of choosing dangerous shortcuts. But then if she didn’t, there would be less drama and space battles. :-)

THOSE PEOPLE who can't take 2takesfrakes ... are of no import. I'm considered more "notorious" on this site, probably, than "popular." And that's OK. Being popular on internet chats isn't high on my Priority List, but I do love talking about STAR TREK to you good people who love talking about it, with me. It's so much fun to talk about; I enjoy it ... I really do. STAR TREK's like the black monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey ... it's pretty much whatever you want it to be. And I want it to be Great Entertainment, which it is!

I'm still not over that one Janeway piece you did a long time ago, that was sort of Andy Warhol-collagey, with all these different heads of her in the background. I thought it was really neat -- and she's not even my favourite female character on the show. But there it is. I've never been one to keep my emotions bottled up, inside. For I, too, am an Artist, Thomas ...an ARTIST!!!

And it honestly wasn't one of my favorite episodes (though I didn't dislike it), so it just got shoved to back of my brain.
Fair enough. As for me, I love it ... but of course, with the exception of five, maybe ten VOY eps, I like them all!
People often say that some episode doesn't feel like a season finale to them. I don't mind if this is the case, especially that I don't think of VOY in terms of seasons. When I watch VOY, I watch the episodes in the order they are and if it weren't for the fact that the episodes of every season are kept in different folders on my HDD, I wouldn't even notice that I had started a new season.
...and Keanu reeves, huh? Hmmm... interesting.
Well yes ... I've always fancied him ever since I saw him in POINT BREAK for the first time in my life (both he and I were young ...). Consequently I've never seen the film you mentioned above, which I assume must come from an earlier period in his career. However, I've seen him in a few things since then and although I didn't always like the films themselves (JOHNNY MNEMONIC was horrible, for example), I've always liked his physical appearance. And when he appeared as Neo on MATRIX, I ... melted on my seat at the cinema ...:lol::lol:
Oh, and

Paris is handsome.

Fantastic! I haven't been called young for some time now ... but thanks for the compliment ... :D:D:D
But if they really did think they were going to grow old on that ship, someone needed to start having babies.
Or simply break their journey, settle down on a planet, mix with the locals ... and then things would have happened more "naturally" ...
I mean ... there's something artificial to me about having children just because circumstances are ... (for lack of a better word) inconvenient ...
Not to mention the fact that I know at least ten thousand people in real life half of which are men ... and although most of them are (supposed to be :brickwall:) straight, there's maybe two or three I'd want to have sex with ... let alone children ...
So if you're stuck on a ship with 150 people, you won't necessarily find the partner you'd want to have children with ... And to have children because circumstances beg for it ... and to have them with people who you'd choose because you can't find better ones ... that would be a little too much for me. I'd surely remain childless.
Of course, if I could seduce Tommyboy ..., that would be a completely new situation ...
:D:D:D

The problem on these fora is that people are so sure their opinion is the only right one. Also, some people get hurt if they love a character/an episode and others don't.
I mean ... Janeway is a goddess for me ... :guffaw:But I don't mind if other people don't like her. However, ... and here's the crux of it, there's a certain civility that should go with expressing one's negative opinion and most people are incapable of doing this. Which is strange, the only thing they'd need to do is to start their sentences with "I think" or "In my opinion" ...
No big deal ...

Okay, my fellow artist. As for me, I don't consider myself an artist. I am a teacher ... making these wallpapers is just a pleasant way of spending my free time. The best thing for those of you who like (some of) them is probably the end result, the wallpaper itself. I'm not saying there aren't a few I don't love (hell I love most of them ) but for me it's different: it is the process of making them that I enjoy the most. While playing with who should be where in the picture with who else, what background I should use and what colours there should be in the wallpaper, I relive the episodes from a different angle - and this is fun. Hell it's even more than that: it is great delight! :)

Oh, I hear you. There was a time in my life, oh 25 years ago or so, when I would have watched anything with Ewan McGregor in it, even if he was just mowing the damn lawn.

Or simply break their journey, settle down on a planet, mix with the locals ... and then things would have happened more "naturally" ...

:)

...and on this note of children, even though you're not talking to me directly : I wouldn't have em either. Not on a starship in that situation anyway, unless Chakotay decided to seduce me, and even then I'd be using space age birth control.
But yeah, out of 150 it's unlikely any of us would find our ideal mate. At 46 years young I'm still single and part of the reason is because I've never wanted kids (and because I'm ultra -picky and ultra- independent ). I broke it off with one of my past boyfriends (who I was with for several years, mind you ) partly because he wanted kids and I didn’t. It can be a deal breaker for some. Maybe being lost in the recesses of space would make me less picky?

I watched Rise and Favorite Son yesterday... Rise was okay I guess, even though I'm not a real fan of Neelix. I didn't particularly care for Favorite Son either, but you all know my general opinion of Harry by now.
Before and After is next! ....hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

I remember not liking Rise at first. But upon later viewings I actually enjoyed it. I grew to really like Neelix. I think he's terribly underrated as a character, and Ethan Phillips is underrated as an actor.
