Voyager season 3

The original versions should have come down in price by now, you can probably find them used. There is supposed to be a rerelease of them soon
Thanks, I hadn't heard that. I'd like to find out about the differences in versions, whether there is commentary or interviews or the like, or just the plain episodes.

Chakotay is my favourite character in the VOYAGER series and one of my favourites in the entire franchise. So, it's difficult to see the character not being expanded upon, as he was in Season II, for example, with episodes like "Tattoo." But Season III held some significant moments for him, such as when someone he loved died and, later, when his beloved Kathryn died and her father came back to haunt her. I loved it how Chakotay stepped out of the shuttle carrying Janeway in his arms, with the lightning crashing, the wind whipping and the rain pouring down in sheets ... really dramatic and memorable stuff! "Don't you die on me, Kathryn!!!" These are moments that are completely memorable and Shakespearian, needless to say. I love that larger than like kind of thing, it always keeps me watching!
I watched this ep (Coda) a couple of days ago and found it to be okay... I liked it a lot when they thought
they were stuck in a time loop
When Janeway
began wandering around with the "Alien from Christmas Past"
I started to check out, and it got rather sappy and cheesy towards the end there. Overall, eh, but I did like the scenes w/Chakotay and Janeway at the beginning and, initially (it diverged pretty quickly though), this ep reminded of an X-Files ep called Monday. I rec that one if you haven't seen it.
My fav episode of that season is BLOOD FEVER - that one is a gem. It's the third best episode of the entire franchise in my book.

...about to watch this one now. I'll give you my thoughts later on.

I'm forced to agree that CODA does end up becoming quite sappy. However ... !!! When Chakotay visits The Good Captain at the end and they have their little recap over This Week's Episode, I think it's kind of sweet, actually! I'm glad it's there ...

Good, I'd like to hear your thoughts on BLOOD FEVER.
I also really like BEFORE AND AFTER a few eps later, so tell me what you think of that one, too.

As for CODA, I just love the final scene:
JANEWAY: Come on, Chakotay. We've cheated death, that's worth a celebration, don't you think? A bottle of champagne, moonlight sail on Lake George, how does that sound?
CHAKOTAY: Like something worth living for.

A very optimistic ending after a near death experience. Cheers me up every time. Especially as Janeway lets Chakotay go first ... very nice of her! :)

I agree on the very ending scene between the two. I also thought it was a bit sweet and far less sappy than the preceding scenes of the crew commiserating, etc. To me (based on my viewing experience so far, and I might be wrong on this) Chakotay seems more interested in Janeway than vice versa. Maybe it's because she's Captain and is trying to remain more objective? IDK, but his actions here and in Resolutions (and one or two other small scenes) make it seem that way.
That's probably a better theoretical question to pose once I finish the series I guess. ;)

Yes, that is nice of Janeway to let her XO go first... shows she has manners and that traditional chivalry has finally died in the 24 century. (kidding...maybe) And I do agree with you on that scene (see my response above).

On Blood Fever: I thought it was excellent...Dawson got to show maybe a bit more range (at least in the one direction) and there were some sexy, steamy scenes (or hints anyway) between her and your buddy. Matter of fact the entire ep was rather sexy, those grey jumpsuits for one thing: holy cow- every single person, man or woman, wearing one looked fantastic. I can see why you liked this one so much (and not just because of Tommyboy, lol). It was engaging, sensual, served to advance the plot as it relates to several of the main characters (mainly, Tom and B'elanna) and, because of the ending shot, also hits the viewer a bit like a cliffhanger ep.
My favorite snippet from the entire ep is when Tom is on the com telling the crew on the ship that B'elanna ran off after she bit him. Chakotay's incredulous response... "She bit you?" and the subtle expression on his face made me lol. That was one time (and there have been a bunch, since I derided him previously) when Beltran's delivery was spot on imho.

Anyway, I'll get back to you on Before and After.

Chakotay found out - thanks to Kathryn - that when you only give love and don't get love, then you must let love ... depart.

One of my most favourite quotes in STAR TREK is from this episode, when B'Elanna informs Paris, "... I've picked up your scent, Tom!!!" Hahaha...!!! She knows his spray ...

This is one of those things that everyone says about Voyager but is not actually true. In this forum several times we've done breakdowns of all the episodes based on who is featured in them and the results are more or less even.
Sophie, It would be interesting to browse through your findings. Is there a past thread?
Of course, my concern is not just how many times a character appears or has a comparable number of scenes/lines. My concern is also regarding the quality of the character exploration and development. But let’s save this for another time or thread.

Cosmic Mouse, I have to agree about Coda. I have different feelings about different parts of it. I love the beginning and ending scenes. The mystery that makes it seem they are in a time loop is good, and then Janeway may be crazy. And then she died, or did she? It keeps us guessing for awhile about what’s going on and how it will all end. I didn’t care for their suggestion that when a human is close to death or believes they see a loved one who has passed on that it may be an alien (the alien from Christmas Past—Ha!) who is trying to steal your soul or conscious energy or something. I thought that was uninformed, and condescending. But the rest I liked quite a bit.

And I used to watch X-Files faithfully but can’t recall which was “Monday”…

Blood Fever, was not a favorite of mine. On my first viewing, I wasn’t that into the Paris-Torres relationship and I thought Vorik transferring his Pon Farr to B'Elanna and then her beating him in a fight was dumb. It was funny though when Paris tells Chakotay that she bit him. Reminds me of when Suzie Plakston played an acerbic half Klingon on NexGen and tells someone, “It’s OK, I don’t bite… Oh, actually, I do.”

Anyway, I did like the ruins and the mystery of what happened to the inhabitants. And then to find the people live in the caves, and are very camouflaged so that they can appear out of nowhere, was very cool. And of course, finding the Borg drone corpse at the end explained what happened. So interesting.

I have never liked "Blood Fever".

I think it's one of the worst episodes in seasons 1,2 and 3.
B'Elanna is attacked and mind-raped by a pon-farr crazy Vorik who actually gets away with it!

The whole concept with B'Elanna being affected by pon farr as well feels constructed, not to mention that the only way to cure B'Elanna is that Tom has sex with her there and then or that Vorik beats her up!
What did they think of when they came up with that?

Too many of our heroes act crazy in this episode and I find it rather pointless.

As for "Coda", it's rather exciting but the end is a bit rushed. I would have wished that the "alien attacking the mind of dying people" would have been left out and replaced by something more thoughtful thing, like "what if"?and "is that what happens when we die"? That would have been better even if we wouldn't have had Janeway's wonderful comment "Go to hell, coward".

Still an exciting episode though.

That's how vulcan pon far works. You mate, meditate, or fight it out. This has been around since the original series.

I'm hoping someone here can remember which thread this was in, but there was a great breakdown of the episodes based on what character was in the lead. I forget which thread that was in. I can start a new thread and go through that myself if nobody can remember.

Oh yes ... everybody looked very sexy in their silver uniforms. In how many episodes do we see those? I can recall LEARNING CURVE, BLOOD FEVER and FRIENDSHIP ONE.
Of course, Tommyboy is always the sexiest of all of them:

And yes, there was a lot more to the ep than Tommy's sexy looks. I really love the story and from now on the Tom-B'Elanna dynamics will be even better ... culminating in Season 7's DRIVE, I think. Just love that ep (for a change)!

Anyway, I'll get back to you on Before and After.

Good, good. It's Kes's best ep in my book ... and it has a (kind of) sequel in Season 4.

One of my most favourite quotes in STAR TREK is from this episode, when B'Elanna informs Paris, "... I've picked up your scent, Tom!!!" Hahaha...!!! She knows his spray ...

Hello TTF, haven't seen you in a while again (but nice to see you're back). And I guess you were referring to an earlier wallpaper of mine :

See, B'Elanna is not the only one who knows Tommy's scent :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:!

Have you ever seen TOS's AMOK TIME? I only saw it later than BLOOD FEVER but that episode explained quite a lot of things. To me, BLOOD FEVER is like a more "modern" version of that story. A kind of continuation ... under different circumstances ... but a nice reflection on what happened to Spock more than a hundred years earlier.

I'm hoping someone here can remember which thread this was in, but there was a great breakdown of the episodes based on what character was in the lead. I forget which thread that was in. I can start a new thread and go through that myself if nobody can remember.

I do remember the thread ... but what it was called? No idea, sorry.

Monday was the ep when the agents get stuck in a loop where they had to repeat a certain Monday until events were altered that broke the time loop. It's the one when Mulder wakes up to find his water bed has sprung a leak at the beginning.

Blood Fever, was not a favorite of mine. On my first viewing, I wasn’t that into the Paris-Torres relationship and I thought Vorik transferring his Pon Farr to B'Elanna and then her beating him in a fight was dumb. While I thoroughly enjoyed this ep I agree it does have some flaws, or areas that maybe could have been improved : less Vorik and more regarding the natives on the planet for me. The scenes that focused on Vorik were easily my least favorite in the ep.

Well, I guess I need to pay better attention to the wardrobe details because I missed these uniforms in Learning curve. Good to know there's at least one more ep when they're on display though.
...and I disagree about Tom being the sexiest. ;)

Okay, time to redirect a little. ..
... watched Unity last night and liked it, didn't love it, but I will recant a bit on my previous critique of Beltran's acting since I thought he did a good job in this ep. I thought it was one the more interesting eps so far that featured him anyway, and an interesting ep in its own right. It introduced the Borg to Voyager I believe (this was their first appearance in the series I think?)...Maybe a precursor of things to come?

I tell you, true: I was unaware of this advert, due to my absence. But to the joy of some -- and the chagrin of others -- I've returned to post on this site with a voracious tenacity not seen since the Cobra Kai chased Daniel San from that Hallow's Eve party in the 80's Classic: The Karate Kid!

My own Human Adventure, unfortunately, did not involve Space Travel, but it did involve Time Travel, of a sort. I've moved from the East Coast to the West Coast with a time difference of a few hours, there. Thomas ... I have those precious hours to relive, again!!! Just like in a VOYAGER episode! Now, how cool is that? And a portion of those hours will be spent inspecting your wallpapers with a new and dazzlingly white glove ...
