VFX in season 2 (and short treks)

Speaking of Discovery VFX, I just had my own go at creating a shot with her...

The show definitely needs more beauty shots like this. Although Season 2 was an improvement.

another VFX reel is up: season 2, episode 2.

Check out the poly flow on the neck. Am I the only person who thinks that organic-style "quads at all costs" modeling looks gross on perfectly flat hard-surface objects? The edge loops doesn't even avoid the window cutouts.

I know in Context for Kings there is a super close up of that part of the ship in the very last shot. Maybe for that reason.

Yeah I think that's when that got detailed out like that. I know there's a few other places where the model's LOD is super high specifically because it had to be filled out for a window pullout.

Ah! So fun personal story for me. I was actually lucky enough to be on the VFX team for Season 2 for Discovery. I actually did the look development and compositing for the shot of the tentacle monster opening and releasing the spores in the breakdown for Episode 4. Its cool to finally see it online!

Thanks for keeping us apprised of these, PST. I don't follow any official Trek accounts, so I don't know when these come out.
