USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Which only goes to show that there's zero consensus with stuff like this. I myself think the two greatest Enterprise designs ever made are the Enterprise-D and the refit TMP Enterprise, both designed by Probert.
You're not wrong. TMP Enterprise is simply the best spaceship design in any media ever. Though there a lot of the credit must go to Jefferies too, as Probert merely refined his work. And whilst Galaxy class is not quite as amazing, it is still absolutely stellar design.

My favorite is still the earlier TMP version that didn't make it to the film:

EarlyTMP.jpg

Enterprise-D designer: Andrew Probert
Enterprise-C designer: Andrew Probert (wall hanging, concept art), Rick Sternbach ("Yesterday's Enterprise" Enterprise-C)
Enterprise-B designer: Bill George (U.S.S. Excelsior), modifications by John Eaves
Enterprise-E designer: John Eaves
Enterprise NX-01 designer: Doug Drexler, based on Akira class starship designed by Alex Jaeger
Enterprise nuTrek designer: Ryan Church

None of those are the original Enterprise, which I took to be Serveaux's point. Otherwise I have to disagree with him.

But as far as the public consciousness goes? Clearly, the hands-down winner is the TOS Enterprise. People who don't even care about Star Trek will recognize that ship anywhere, and its design will far outlast anything else that has come after it.

I think the public is more-or-less aware of the TMP one as well, simply because it got a lot of exposure from 1979 onward.

The Kelvin Timeline Enterprise 1701-A would be #9, the Kelvin Timeline 1701 would be #10 and the Enterprise-J would be #11.

The original and refit by a billion miles.
Me, too. After the (pre-TOS-R) TOS original and the TMP refit, it's generally downhill from there.

I did grin when I saw the Pasteur, for its hearkening back to early Jefferies sketches. And I'm a fan of the Grissom, too, because it came across believably for what it was, a basic starship for scientific research missions. Oh, yeah, and the J's alright! *ducks*

P.S. I loved the Kelvin.

I think your giving the general public too much credit, I think the average “person on the street” will identify any spaceship consisting of a saucer and some cylinders as an Enterprise/Star Trek ship, likely including Discovery as well.
