USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Too damn much subtlety around these here parts.

Don't beat around the bush....just make 'em famous. ;)

Something kept nagging at the back of my mind and this morning I realized what it was. The general shape of Discovery is very reminiscent of the Vulcan IDIC symbol. When done as a pendant rather than a patch, the pendant has a crystal / gem where Discovery has the bridge dome. These could be two iterations of the same general theme:

Other tidbits:

In TOS, the Starfleet ships, Klingon ships, and Romulan ships all had a smooth exterior. That somewhat suggests a single origin. I am actually liking the fact that they have gone a new route with the Klingon ships in Discovery.

I also like the fact that the secondary hull of Discovery has a certain resemblance to the old TOS Klingon ships (I did an Enterprise-Klingon kitbash back in the day), and that overall there is some Ralph McQuarrie flavor but not too much. I still think that the nacelles are about 1/3 too long, but I am warming to what they have done.

Changes are not bothering me any more. Whether they insist on canon or not has reached the point, for me, that it is simply a topic for non-heated conversation. :)

Nice catch on the IDIC similarity. It's kind of amusing though, seeing in "Lethe" that Vulcans see Starfleet as a second-rate space force behind their own Vulcan expeditionary group.

Somehow, in my warped mind, when I hear 'Vulcan Expeditionary Group', I think of all these Vulcan versions of Allan Quatermain running around. :guffaw:

Some users (not all) on Memory-Alpha are taking visual canon very seriously.
They're treating the DSC Enterprise as prime, but not as a retcon/reboot design.

They're sticking with the idea that until CBS goes back and actually shows this design in use during 'The Cage' they will treat them as two different designs with no real explanation.

There is a real life explanation, but not an in-universe one, because there doesn't need to be.
The main portion of MA articles are written from in-universe perspective. They really cannot put 'CBS wants to sell more toy licences' in there.

Alternate character interpretation: there actually were five lights, and Picard was just being a dick.

They're treating the DSC Enterprise as prime and canon, but not as a retcon/reboot.

So until CBS goes back and actually shows this design in use in 'The Cage' memory-alpha is still treating them as two different designs.
What exactly is it that makes you believe otherwise with such confidence?

Whether there "needs to be" or not, there is a potential one implicit in the previously-introduced concept of the TMP refit. This would be true even if they hadn't deliberately dropped in a reference to said concept on the show when they initially teased a new Connie design in "Despite Yourself" (DSC)...which they did. Moreover, Ted Sullivan and John Eaves have both suggested by their offscreen comments that this may indeed be the intent! And there is certainly enough time, both between "The Cage" and DSC, and between DSC and TOS, for the Enterprise to undergo such modifications. So irrespective of whether it can as yet be directly proven, to the extent that Memory Alpha can state with certainty as an in-universe fact, that this is precisely what happened, it certainly can't be disproven either. The retcon here, as it stands thus far, is no more or less than that a previously-unseen configuration of the Enterprise exists in 2257. Your take on it may be that it's simply a "visual reboot" with no change or difference indicated in-universe, but I remain unconvinced that this is, in fact, the production's take on it.
