USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Maybe it was a publicity shot of the physical models built for Trials and Tribble-ations?

That's what I'm thinking. This shot wasn't in the episode, as far as I remember. There were some beautiful and memorable shots of the ship in that episode. Shows what a physical model, filmed nicely, can do over CGI.

I disagree with that. Certainly with 1960s levels of TV VFX and the original milky-white hull colour, but I've watched episodes of TOSR as well as appearances by TOS Connies in the spin-off shows and she looks way more sophisticated than the NX-01 in many of those. And certainly looks good enough in my opnion to be used in a contemporary film/TV show. I will agree with you that internally the TOS Enterprise hasn't aged well. In particular the bridge and engineering spaces. That's because of the colour-pallet - designed to flog colour TVs in the day - and the replacement of working viewing screens in 'The Cage' with papier mache cut-out pictures of space scenes made it look bad. When I watched 'Tomorrow is Yesterday' on Blu-Ray last week in the scene when the bridge is in darkness near the start of the episode when they first come to, you can see the wrinkles in the clear plastic covering the space photos. If they'd stuck to the Bridge from the first pilot sans the gooseneck viewers and with a larger, more rectangular screen it would have aged much better than the definitive TOS bridge.

You can disagree all you want, but that will not change it. Retexturing the hull will not fix the core issue. The design looks 1960s, it looks primative. Its the basic shape and design, its a model T and looks it.

The Constitution-class is fine as is and expected to look like that regardless of how people may think about her being dated or not. That is how she looks. The Constitution is not the Model T, she's the Ford Mustang. Just how many times have they reimagined and retro designed the Mustang over the decades and still in the 2010s Ford retros a new Mustang that has basically the same body shape as the 1965 Mustang. That is the Constitution-class.

I think that something in the line with Vektor´s version of the Enterprise would do the job. :)

Something in line with Madkoi´s version would be fine too:

The version built by Rick "Madman" Wallace would serves for inspiration too:

All of them are good examples of how you can modernize the old lady and still recognizes her. ;)

Yep, these are all excellent. I like Vektor's version in particular.

I remember one article around the time of the second or third season of TNG, where someone was comparing that with TOS.

The writer said that the 1701-D was the Lexus and the 1701 was the 1968 Mustang GT Fastback!

Done right
Done right as in update the look a little bit? Clean it up? Make it fit the DSC design scheme? If that's what you mean then I agree.

EDIT: Quite frankly, even putting the KT Enterprise next to the DSC would look a bit off to me. It all has to do with the design approach. They just look and feel different.

I think what @Mirror Mirror is getting at is that if you stick the Connie next to the DSC or the Shenzhou, it's going to naturally look out of place. It's two completely different design styles. Even if the Connie looks "futuristic" to some people, putting a 1960's sci-fi ship next to a 2017 sci-fi ship, it's going to clash.

Let them clash.

"Done right" like in some of the examples earlier in the thread. Same ship, just crisper, cleaner details. Hell, any details considering the original model was lacking a lot of the greeblies that would make for a more realistic look.

One thing to we should bear in mind that we're not talking about a new show centred around a Constitution-class ship here. We're talking about a brief cameo appearance, a homage to the original series. For that purpose they really don't need to alter the design much.

You don't see why that would be a problem for the visual cohesion of the show?

No. It will show off the ideological differences between the shows. USS Discover was built for a reason, but so was the USS Constitution. Let them be different. It will be fine.

Certainly there's more of a problem there if they decide to build a new physical model, as opposed to a beautiful CGI rendering.
