USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Then what is the point of even having a TrekBBS?
I'm sure there are more worthwhile topics. This upgrade vs. reboot thing is completely in the eye of the beholder, and if there is one thing I've learned from all my years of playing D&D it is that you should avoid those.

But! The TOS movies bridges kept the same width-to-height ratio from the television show, despite also being shot for ~16:9 screen. And the bridge looked beautifully framed.
That's because the refit Enterprise bridge was originally designed and built for the abandoned Phase II TV series. When it came time to upgrade to TMP, the production only had enough time to refurbish the set and redo the weapons station. The overall size and shape of the set remained the same.

No doubt.

CBS All Access's viewership is remarkably old for a streaming service - although about six out of ten of their viewers are in the coveted 18-49 year age-range* their average viewer is 44 years old.

*Yeah, I know - calling this group "coveted" has gotten almost as over-used as calling anything "iconic."

What are their numbers? DSC has been renewed for a third season, so I assume CBS considers the series a moderate success, at least.

Star Trek V and VI was the first time they actually made a movie set, and it shows.

ETA: And by that I don't mean that the TMP/TWOK bridge is bad. I love it. It's just not quite as cinematic as the following one.

The lead production designer is a fan of TOS, she probably did it herself.

And they're all over the place, not just on the corners.

To me, the buttons are in the margins and corners. They're not the primary interface.

Tamara on the design:

"Well, we do get a lot of comments and a lot of flak from fans,” she said. “It's like, well, it's not exactly the original. Well, if we did the original sets, you would be sorely disappointed because the expectations of audiences today are to see something incredible and fastidiously sci-fi and surfaces and details and 3D printing and all that. All the mechanics of the way we build sets now are completely different than what they used, which was hammers and nails and cardboard, and wonderful sets though they were, to get the essence of those and bring them into our world is ... I don't have an issue with it. I think we'd be disappointing people if we didn't.”

You're becoming unnecessarily personal in your responses.
Glad I'm not the only one seeing it. I even posted my original post (which was asked about earlier) to emphasize expressing my opinion didn't require me to go out and knock down others', yet some people went out of their way to try to "show" me my fan theory was incorrect, with statements like "Not all theories are equal".

It is a success, in the terms that matter to a fledgling streaming service like CBS - it drives new subscriptions. The show has become such an anchor for them that they're pouring money into at least four other Star Trek-branded shows.

I don't see the problem with the coloured buttons.

They could be a physical backup in case of trouble with the touchscreens. In that case, mind you, there should be some on the helm console.

The only thing I don't really like about the new bridge is the coloured random blinking things above the console screens. I'll get used to them, I guess.

I love the gummies. Doug Drexler theorized that the gummies were touch-sensitive and could be manipulated in different ways for different results and commands to the console. Gently massaged. Punched. Tapped. All could result in different decisions being made.

It would certainly fit with how Sulu... ah... caressed those buttons.

I think the problem with a Pike Series is that people who'd like it would be split down the middle about what they think of the appearance of the ship. A large number of old-schoolers who would love to see Pike in Command would want to see him in command of the Enterprise from "The Cage". To say nothing about what they probably think about serialization. "You mean the story's NOT all wrapped up at the end of an episode?!" Too many of the people who'd be all over this type of series have already sworn off any new Star Trek. "Everything after 19__ sucks!"
