I'm sure there are more worthwhile topics. This upgrade vs. reboot thing is completely in the eye of the beholder, and if there is one thing I've learned from all my years of playing D&D it is that you should avoid those.

That's because the refit Enterprise bridge was originally designed and built for the abandoned Phase II TV series. When it came time to upgrade to TMP, the production only had enough time to refurbish the set and redo the weapons station. The overall size and shape of the set remained the same.

What are their numbers? DSC has been renewed for a third season, so I assume CBS considers the series a moderate success, at least.

Star Trek V and VI was the first time they actually made a movie set, and it shows.

ETA: And by that I don't mean that the TMP/TWOK bridge is bad. I love it. It's just not quite as cinematic as the following one.

To me, the buttons are in the margins and corners. They're not the primary interface.

    Tamara on the design:

Glad I'm not the only one seeing it. I even posted my original post (which was asked about earlier) to emphasize expressing my opinion didn't require me to go out and knock down others', yet some people went out of their way to try to "show" me my fan theory was incorrect, with statements like "Not all theories are equal".

It's the same on the Discovery and the Shenzhou/Section 31 ship sets.

It is a success, in the terms that matter to a fledgling streaming service like CBS - it drives new subscriptions. The show has become such an anchor for them that they're pouring money into at least four other Star Trek-branded shows.

We're specifically talking about the candy buttons here. I'm not guessing the fruit flavors of Discovery's buttons.

I don't see the problem with the coloured buttons.

The topic gods, obviously. Did you perform your sacrifices, recently?

They could be a physical backup in case of trouble with the touchscreens. In that case, mind you, there should be some on the helm console.

The only thing I don't really like about the new bridge is the coloured random blinking things above the console screens. I'll get used to them, I guess.

I love the gummies. Doug Drexler theorized that the gummies were touch-sensitive and could be manipulated in different ways for different results and commands to the console. Gently massaged. Punched. Tapped. All could result in different decisions being made.

Who are these people? I am a die-hard TOS fan and never asked for any of this supposed fan service.

It would certainly fit with how Sulu... ah... caressed those buttons.

I think the problem with a Pike Series is that people who'd like it would be split down the middle about what they think of the appearance of the ship. A large number of old-schoolers who would love to see Pike in Command would want to see him in command of the Enterprise from "The Cage". To say nothing about what they probably think about serialization. "You mean the story's NOT all wrapped up at the end of an episode?!" Too many of the people who'd be all over this type of series have already sworn off any new Star Trek. "Everything after 19__ sucks!"
