USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

That's something I haven't seen brought up before, interesting.

I mean, the scaling is different in some shots in the same movie:

The astronauts in the spacedock, as well as Kirk & Spocks spacewalk (first shot in this video), definitely give the Enterprise a 400m+ scale. When the crew is standing outside on the saucer at the end of the movie to walk to V'Ger, the humans are massively overscaled (almost half the overall saucer height!) - the reason probably simply being to have both the ship and the humans shape visible in the same shot.

Overall it comes down to this:
  • One deck tall saucer edge: 289m
  • Two deck tall saucer edge: 400+m size
IMO it's pretty obvious the saucer edge is supposed to be two-decks high: It has two rows of windows.
This room (http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/File:The_crew_of_the_Enterprise,_2270s.jpg), where Kirk addresses the crew, is two levels high, has two rows of windows, and shows the front of the nacelle. The window arrangement is visible here (https://hallmarkstartrekornamentsdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/img_6101.jpg) at the back side of the saucer, in the same angle toward the nacelle as in the crew shot. This two-decks tall room is supposed to be at this specific point at the suacer.

If the edge of the saucer is supposed to be two decks high (which it is!), the Enterprise simply must be 400+ meters tall, probably 450m. Or it's bigger on the inside.

As soon as they built their first 24th century klingon ship (the Vor'cha), they used that, and we never saw upscaled BoPs again.
We didn't? There were Klingon BoP's in TNG "Redemption" and DS9 "Sacrifice of Angels." The BoP's escorting the Defiant seemed pretty huge. Were those upscaled or not?

I meant they didn't use BoP models as stand-ins for massive cruisers anymore. Because they now had a model for that. They sure as hell continued to use them as BoPs.

That being said: With them still using physical models, of course the sizes were all over the place. Hell, the Defiant itself doesn't have a fixed size, so comparing her to BoP's really depends on which size the Defiant had this week. But all later appereances the BoP suggested, well, a BoP-sized ship. With a large margin of error. But not upscaled to a different type of ship.

I see. Yeah, that seems likely.

Right.

Well, there are at least six, and nobody says otherwise. We just see a conflicting MSD.
Huh - I never knew there were as many as six - I always thought there was a debate between whether there were 4 or 5...

Where’s the suggestion of deck 6 come from (out of curiosity)? I may have to go back and watch DS9 again (wouldn’t that be a shame!)

Why not? That part of the ship is especially (and uniquely) "fitting". It's more distressing to see a Miranda attempt that in "Way of the Warrior"
Well I was just being silly earlier but my reasoning (if you can call it that haha!) is basically because there’s no visual airlock at the front of the Defiant and the deflector dish lives there (unless the nose cone is actually a missile...) but I did see a video (I forget where) that analysed whether Defiant could have had a walkway at the front of the ship then a concealed airlock above the deflector dish.

And don’t even get me started on the Miranda class. No deflector? Not interested.

The very episodes that feature turbolift rides to that "forbidden" or "unreal" Deck 5 also show the turbolift as featuring a route map that goes all the way down to Deck 6...

Most of the stuff in that map is acceptable. Deck 6 happens to be the only one to list a Brig. Did we ever see that? Usually, folks were merely locked up in their quarters. One might argue separating the Bridge onto its own deck is false, given the many corridor walk scenes and the true nature of the set. If the division to Deck 1 for the Bridge and Deck 2 for the rest of that level is "administrative", then perhaps the ship in fact has five decks, numbered from 1 to 6?

That one would nicely match the MSD. Too bad the MSD doesn't match the rest of the data all that well...

The Defiant was created to defeat the Borg. In practice, the Borg are defeated by boarding. Two side-by-side boarding tubes hidden beneath those two side-by-side hatches at the bow would make eminent sense!

Yeah but that one is pretty bias.

They're all analysis and commentary pieces. Bias (or more accurately: judgement and subjectivity), whether you're aware of it or not, is inherent to that type of writing. Every piece is biased. Your comment is biased. So is mine. We're stating our opinions, after all.

Cheers for that :) I’ve seen that schematic before but never twigged that it listed 6 decks - this is like the whole “deck 29” thing from NEM... or “decks 26 up to 11” from FC

Yeh I always assumed there was loads of stuff on deck 1 including the bridge due to the small size of the ship. Maybe the things listed on the turbolift display are just areas where the lift stops?

That’s true! The incorrect MSD even made it into O’Brien’s console on the Sao Paolo bridge too...!

Confirmed via Dennys Ilic's Instagram that they have built an Enterprise bridge set...

On the bridge of the sunning USS Enterprise build with producer Alex Kurtzman. I’d love to point the camera in the other direction but I’d have to kill you Or me!

Such a thrill to shoot with this very kind and generous guy again, who has produced some of my favorite thangz!

I take this to mean only some portion was built... or some part cannot be shown yet.

Watch it be the final reveal of the Season, like how the Enterprise herself was for Season 1.

I take this to mean only a portion was built, likely the viewscreen/window.
I don't see how you came to this conclusion.
It's more likely they want to keep it a secret until airing, (or until a commercial spoils it).

Neither do I hence the edit.
