Ah, the uniform caps from "The Cage." Say what you want, they were far from the worst thing we ever saw as clothing for a Starfleet officer.

Nothing tops the TMP onsie as worst Starfleet uniform. No wonder the Ilia probe said unit a lot. :guffaw:

The Disco Belt Buckle tunics were groovy, baby. Like, two mountains of coke on a nightclub bathroom sink groovy. :p

Those aren't from an RPG book, they're from one of those unlicensed 1980's Treknical manuals. From the Files of Starfleet Command or Federation Reference Series probably. Fan made movie-era updates of the old Star Fleet Technical Manual.

The early designs are awful...the newer ones....not so much. Guardian took time to grow on me (I have two) and the stanchion nacelles are...daft. But even they grow on you when you fancy a change.

In terms of the kitbash aspect of earlier Starfleet ships, that’s not really true most of the time (when not upcycling movie era stuff) and in Voyager particularly you can see the Sternbach lineage.

But that's why I love it. It's so ridiculously overpowered and over-designed, like if the Federation tried making Star Destroyers, or the Galactic Empire made the Enterprise.

In the 23rd century, people aren't ashamed of the human body anymore.

It’s that publicity etching with a couple of hippies we sent out on Voyager.

There is body shame and there is practicality.

Not that Starfleet ever functioned on practicality.

That would make a great Starfleet Marine uniform.

I admit, in my headcanon, the SFMC wears black, but yours also works.

Can you give us a black version of that uni? :techman:

I always liked the basic look of the TMP uniforms and I think it was a shame they ditched them completely rather than improved them. The subdued cool colour scheme is nice.

I have long felt that by the 23rd century there would be 'smart clothing'....you could wear whatever you chose as far as amount, layers, style for personal expression, etc, and the clothing would make adjustments, based upon whatever environment you happened to be in, to keep you comfortable. Boots that would adjust their tread pattern for more grip when needed, and so on.

But I've also had the idea that there could be 'caretaker nanites' inside everyone's body that would maintain all systems at a constant optimum, very rapidly repair any damage, eliminate the absolute need for food and water, etc. Of course, that would make the future quite different, in many aspects, than what has been depicted in Trek.

Anyhow, 'smart clothing' would mean that nothing we have seen would necessarily be impractical.

Those power laces from Back to the Future were just the beginning. :p
