First thing I did was turn the lane-keeping assist off. The pre-collision warning went off yesterday evening when I went into a curve at a decent clip and for a second there was a car parked on the side of the street the sensor thought I was going to hit, but I was already moving in a curve as I turned. As soon as the parked car was no longer directly in front of me the collision warning stopped.
I have found the auto stop/start feature a bit weird, but you have to remember to turn it off every time you start the car. Fortunately I don’t get much stop-and-go traffic where I live so for now I don’t think about it much.
I’ve had this vehicle for only a day, but early impressions. Even in normal mode this thing is quick to get up and go. It feels quicker than my CrownVic (and it may well be), but also it’s not making the same sound so you’re lulled into thinking you not going fast only to check the speedometer showing you’re already past the speed limit. It has a nice ride. And I really like the steering—very direct and sporty feeling. I like the seating position and the view forward over those bulges on the hood—neat.
This morning was chilly. I need to look up to make sure how the seat warmers are enabled.
Upon reflection it’s interesting that my list of potential purchase was rather short. I have always had an eye on the automotive market leaving me with a reasonable grasp of what was out there. Seeing how I was accustomed to a fullsize car I did consider cars like the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang, but when it came to being serious those fell off the list (it must be said I don’t like what they did to the 2024 Mustang, particularly the interior).
I had considered a Volkswagen GTI as I have long been a fan of GTIs, but presently VW has gone the near total digital control route on the GTI and I loathe that. I had seriously considered the 2025 Jetta GLI and 2024 Jetta with Sport Package as an alternative (both with manual transmission) because VW kept the instrumentation and switchgear more conventional which I appreciated. So if I hadn’t gotten a Bronco Sport I probably would have gotten a Jetta with manual transmission.
But I found myself drawn to the Bronco Sport as my first choice and I managed to get a deal I was comfortable with, so thats what I went with.
