If the cut sequences (that are in the novelization) regarding Gaila's willing or unwilling participation in Kirk's hacking of the Kobayashi Maru are included in the extended cut of the film, thus making them canon, then we could reason (pure speculation of course) that she would have been put on academic probation like Kirk and therefore stayed on Earth.

It'd be a way to bring her back for sequels if they desired, in any case.

But as more ammunition to my personal belief that she's on the Enterprise (or at least def. not on the Farragut) is that she doesn't look surprised or bothered that Uhura walks off in another direction to her after the assignments are called, which (to me) means she's not expecting to be walking with Uhura to the shuttle. So she's not been assigned the same ship, so not the Farragut.

Getting back to the uniforms, I've never liked doilies, and doily shirts with a Starfleet delta pattern may sound like something to try, but I find the results quite aesthetically displeasing.

Oh yes, uniforms. I actually like the informality of the shipboard uniforms - it helps create the impression that in this Starfleet, there's still a lot of hands-on work to be done (crawling under consoles, fighting Gorn...). They contrast nicely with the more formal Academy uniforms.

I think Pike in his Academy uniform cuts the best dash, though

This is something I posted over at another forum, but it explains why I think the Trek XI uniforms actually make a LOT of sense when you compare to real militaries...maybe even more so than any other Trek uniforms we've seen to date.

And oooooh, yes...Pike looks great in black.


At least in the US Air Force, which I am familiar with, there are three "levels" of uniform:

Mess dress--formal uniform seen during official ceremonies, dinners, graduations, and weddings.

Service dress--Kind of a...business suit. Typical everyday office-wear.

BDUs: Worn in combat environments.

Flight suit: What it says. Nicknamed "the bag" by some.

Here's how I see the uniforms we saw in Trek XI:

Admiral's uniform we saw during the ceremony = mess dress

The black/planetside uniform = service dress

Shipboard uniform = BDUs.

ENT uniform (since discontinued) = flight suit

That is a great idea! Nah, I do have other passions I must attend to; I wouldn't waste the time.

Besides, I think some people around here are more eager for the new movie than I. This one will always be a perfect memory; like the original Star Wars. I'm somewhat trepidacious about the sequel.
