Uniforms not getting enough attention.

In that case, Gaila could be Grand Admiral of the entire damn Starfleet.

Too bad she's space dust. :(

Or is she?

If the cut sequences (that are in the novelization) regarding Gaila's willing or unwilling participation in Kirk's hacking of the Kobayashi Maru are included in the extended cut of the film, thus making them canon, then we could reason (pure speculation of course) that she would have been put on academic probation like Kirk and therefore stayed on Earth.

It'd be a way to bring her back for sequels if they desired, in any case.

Gaila was not on academic probation; she was shown being assigned to a ship, but we don't know which one. I hope it's the Enterprise.

Ah, missed that. Oh well, I guess her odds are one in seven... or was it eight?

If they've been reading the message board, her odds could improve. ;) She has some fans around here.

I'm sure she'll make a cameo appearance in the next film, and even if she's hard to see, Jeri will see here by her 5th viewing, if not one of the first four :p

Captain Fine :) Now, you know I just go to hang with my buds in Starfleet and get off planet for a while.

Well if her last name was Blutarsky, or whatever the hell they said just before she grinned at Uhura, then she wasn't assigned to Enterprise.

We don't know her last name, and she turned to Uhura at the same time all the other cadets were dismissed.

I did look out for her at the ceremony at the end, but couldn't see her. But as more ammunition to my personal belief that she's on the Enterprise (or at least def. not on the Farragut) is that she doesn't look surprised or bothered that Uhura walks off in another direction to her after the assignments are called, which (to me) means she's not expecting to be walking with Uhura to the shuttle. So she's not been assigned the same ship, so not the Farragut.

So, are we absolutely certain that none of the other ships managed to get some shuttles or rescue pods off when they were attacked at Woolkun?

I mean, the Kelvin managed to pop off several when it was destroyed. Granted, George Kirk fought Nero off to save them, but I'm still holding out hope. :(

Oh yeah, there's bound to have been escape pods - the Narada wouldn't have been interested in picking them off because it was busy with the drilling of Vulcan.

Getting back to the uniforms, I've never liked doilies, and doily shirts with a Starfleet delta pattern may sound like something to try, but I find the results quite aesthetically displeasing.

Ha ha! You totally got me "Woollkun" reference. That's why we're like bestest buds. :D

I love Chekov ;)

Oh yes, uniforms. I actually like the informality of the shipboard uniforms - it helps create the impression that in this Starfleet, there's still a lot of hands-on work to be done (crawling under consoles, fighting Gorn...). They contrast nicely with the more formal Academy uniforms.

I think Pike in his Academy uniform cuts the best dash, though :)

This is something I posted over at another forum, but it explains why I think the Trek XI uniforms actually make a LOT of sense when you compare to real militaries...maybe even more so than any other Trek uniforms we've seen to date.

And oooooh, yes...Pike looks great in black. :)

At least in the US Air Force, which I am familiar with, there are three "levels" of uniform:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force_uniform

Mess dress--formal uniform seen during official ceremonies, dinners, graduations, and weddings.

Service dress--Kind of a...business suit. Typical everyday office-wear.

BDUs: Worn in combat environments.

Flight suit: What it says. Nicknamed "the bag" by some.

Here's how I see the uniforms we saw in Trek XI:

Admiral's uniform we saw during the ceremony = mess dress

The black/planetside uniform = service dress

Shipboard uniform = BDUs.

ENT uniform (since discontinued) = flight suit

Apparently, the patterns on them are made up of little Starfleet deltas.
I think I'm the first person to notice that.

No way, I swear in the name of Q that I was the first to notice. Trust me.

Somehow I think you'll be looking forward more to the new movie than any of us. What will you do for 2 or possibly 3 years without Star Trek to satiate your appetite a couple times a week? I think you may need to hibernate.

That is a great idea! Nah, I do have other passions I must attend to; I wouldn't waste the time.

Besides, I think some people around here are more eager for the new movie than I. This one will always be a perfect memory; like the original Star Wars. I'm somewhat trepidacious about the sequel.
