U.S.S. Kelvin pic! (and more -- large images)

I love waking up to things like this.
Great pictures. Love the uniforms except for the Arrow pattern in them. A bit too much like Superman Returns suit with the S shield. The bridge looks a bit flashy, I was hoping for more rugged after seeing the corridor however I will wait to see the whole thing first.

As much as I love BSG, Stargate and the likes... I am so glad they decided to stay Trek.
Clean, futuristic looking, advanced starships. Star Trek.

Well I see where all the fanboys are. They're here, making snide comments whenever someone expresses an opinion that isn't completely positive. I understand now.

Shame on any one of you who does this.

Does that make you the pot or the kettle?

So far you've done nothing to distinguish yourself from the likes of MattJC.

I'm curious to see how the Kelvin interior and the Enterprise exterior will fit that pattern, respectively.

Am I the only one to find the registery number of the Kelvin a little odd? I don't think we've ever seen one starting with a "0" ... so maybe "0" is not the first, but actually the second digit. That would mean that the Kelvin has a five digit number, which means that it's from the TNG era ... :vulcan:

Edit: After going through this thread again, it seems that I'm not the only one. But the question still stands!

No, the Kelvin does not have a 5-digit registry. You can see the whole saucer along with the full registry of NCC-0514 in this very thread. I do find it a little odd, but nothing I'm gonna fret over. For an over/under nacelled ship, of which I am generally not a fan, she looks great. :techman:

Just looking at that ET shot of the USS Kelvin again. Could (what is probably) the ventral nacelle have a bussard collector with a reddish glow, as opposed to the blue dorsal one?

Now that would be different.

I have skimmed this thread so I might have missed it, is it Kirk that Spock is throttling?

Generally, I'm very pleased.

Best shot has to be the reverse shot of the bridge (the one without Spock) - everyone looks the part in that shot, especially Pine & Pegg.

I'm less enthusiastic about the Kelvin though. Can't put my finger on the problem, but I'm completely underwhelmed by that "destruction" shot. Nothing we haven't seen there before in CGI. And that shot with the "eye" above the dish just looks...odd.

But what do I know.

Loving the bridge shots, they do look a little bright - but hopefully this will be toned down a touch in the final print.

I agree about the battle shots. The weapons look like pea-shooters, and the fiery, smokey explosions look totally out of place in the vacuum of space.

I'm more pleased with the design of the Kelvin in general, and I didn't think I'd like an over-and-under nacelle design. I agree that the blue upper engine with the seemingly red lower engine looks strange, but maybe there's a reason. Its a minor detail, after all.

Well....

Chris Pine still looks nobody, Chekov looks about 12, the rest of the crew look pretty good, actually.

Uniforms are a decent upate of the originals.

The exterior of the USS Kelvin looks very much like it's the movie-era style of design.

The Enterprise bridge.... looks fucking awful. The shot of Kirk SPock and Bones on the bridge looks like a shot from some spoof comedy sketch shot on the set for some other movie... Or like Galaxy Quest, as someone said earlier in the thread

Holy Crap!

My god, thats amazing.

Its my day off today, ive only just come down stairs to check a download and see these.

FABULOUS!

Not too sure on the over-detailing on the uniform tops material though, they might be less obvious on film though.

As mentioned, the plooms of smoke are easily explained, the battle is either in the upper atmosphere of a planet (ala. Serenity ) or its an unfinnished model shot yet to complete post-production.

Loving the hair styles, LOL, i was expecting cropped kind of neutral TNG era looks, but i love em, all combed over and back and, in the case of Zoe, elaborate.

I was more surprised on the bridge shot, though. Its a bit, well as said earlier, 'Apple'. Its all kinda chunky but not and kind of a cross breed between a new iPod nano, a Mac book and an iMac, with a bit of Galaxy Quest thrown into the ballance.

But still, this could be a simulator *cough* Kobiashi Maru*cough*, or even the bridge of the Kelvin. Do we actually know it is the bridge of the Enterprise for certain.

Yes, yes we do. It was stated to be so by an official source, "1701" is visible on the rear monitors, and I doubt the Kobayashi Maru simulator at this time will be made up to look like the brand-new Enterprise.

Its THE bridge guys. Looks just like the snippit we saw in the J.J. Abrams laptop photo earlier this year. Learn to love it - its what we got. Could be worse - could be a re-build of the original, with jelly bean buttons and slide-show monitors.

Ive just come back in to edit.

That was quick, Juan.

Oh i do, i do love it.

Its like TMP's redesign all over again, the Enterprise was almost completley different from the show version. This is the same deal, just different production designers and vision.

TMP's main difference was engineering, a complete re-design, nothing like the show, but again, different production, different ideas hence different results.

Look at the throne in TMP and compare it the soap box Shatner sat in, its was comletely different, small, more advanced looking and, to be fair, looked sleek and stylish.

I'm curious about what the engine room will look like. Reports earlier this year claimed that while other interior shots were filmed on sets, engineering was shot at a redressed industrial location. Could be cool...

I didn't mean to imply that you hated the bridge or that you were inattentive, Vigo. Its just that I've seen about 20 different people in 3 or 4 different threads tonight make the same supposition about it not really being the Enterprise, usually coupled with a firm declaration of disgust as to the look of the set. :)

...and yes, I am very speedy. ;)

Hey! Maybe that isn't really the bridge! Maybe it's just a simulator and that podium is the instructor's lectern.

[ducks and runs, cackling]
