U.S.S. Kelvin pic! (and more -- large images)

Has anyone else commented that, besides the bruised face, Kirk has a bandaged left hand in the bridge shot?
Does he? With the lighting and color of his skin, I can't tell if that's a bandage or simply the side of his hand.

McCoy seems to have the rank stripes he did in TOS - one full bar and one half bar - Lt. Commander. Maybe its a probationary cadet rank?

Dennis, thanks for the shot of the Kelvin--it looks fantastic.

After looking at these pics, I can't wait to see Nimoy in this new context.

It all looks so very Phase II. (not the fanfilm, the old Syd Mead renderings from the 70s) Anyone else getting that vibe?
Please. Syd Mead didn't work on Phase II. He worked on the V'ger design for TMP.

It looks like Spock's trying to neck pinch Kirk, but Kirk's trying to push his hand away.

It looks like the material of the shirts has a texture...and that texture (in the hi rez neck pinch shot) sorta gives and effect of zillions of little Starfleet deltas.

As to the plexiglass walls behind McCoy, I notice that they don't seem to attach to the ceiling. Why does this make me wonder if they're going to disappear into the floor?

Everything looks cool so far.

Urban seems to have some of McCoy's mannerisms right on.

To me the shi's is looking very end-of-TVH (the bridge at least, with all the bright lights action happening). I almost bought the simulator argument, until I saw the "1701" on the rear display (oh...and read the MTV blog....) I'm starting to feel a little trepidation after seeing this bridge, to be honest. TOO tech, TOO flashy. The shuttlecraft/mining looking shots previously leaked almost suggested something more rugged, I didn't necessarily expect the bridge to be THAT fancy. (diggin' the mini-skirt though, straight up!)

Kirk climbing on the ice looks like he's coming from an escape pod. So they threaten the ship with destruction right off the bat? Oh wait...that was every week when Trek was on TV.

I almost wanted to take umbrage with the "0514" registry, but then again Enterprise's Enterprise was NX-01, so maybe that's justifiable (any thoughts that that's the ENT homage/reference/whatever allegedly referred to be Abrams and Co? OTOH, this is Federation's Starfleet, not Earth's...). I bet die-hard fans will complain considering previous 3 digit registries (first that comes to mind is the Grissom, NCC-638), but maybe that's part of the reboot-yet-not-reboot/prequel-yet-not-prequel. Either way, if we're seeing part of the bridge module, then this DOES look like an Oberth-y style primary hull to me.

The Nero photo speaks for itself. His right ear's pointed, so I bet the poster shot w/ the scarred left ear either represents Nero after some accident we see in the film, or only his left ear bears the scarring. On the same token, his ear looks less Vulcan-ic (get it? eh? eh?) than Spock's.

All in all, mixed feelings. I'm still going to see the thing, but that Bridge shot kinda makes me NOT want to see it in a crowded theater. The last thing I want is to miss some dialog due to a rousing Chorus of "Oh, what the f***?!??!!"

That's my two cents (and ten bucks says all of this was mentioned before, but I'm too lazy and impatient to read 6 pages of thread before dropping my comments onto the world).

Look at Urban's (McCoy) left pinky finger.....is that a ring i see?!?!? :techman:

I don't know about doctors, but engineers at my school can get silver pinky rings upon graduation. Maybe it's something like that.

As will I. As will all those who say they won't. We KNOW every true fan will be there, I only hope the complainers aren't doing it in the cinema. I'm practicing my backhand just in case.

Sorry, but I've been a fan since I was little and I think this all looks really silly and out of place, so I probably won't be spending 8 bucks to go see it. That doesn't make me any less of a "true fan" than you, and I think your attitude is more irritating than any fanboy complainer could muster. Shame on you.

Who cares about the story or the characters or the acting if it doesn't look perfect. It's the look of the movie that makes everything, right? That's why there's no such thing as B-movies or cult classics.

Well I see where all the fanboys are. They're here, making snide comments whenever someone expresses an opinion that isn't completely positive. I understand now.

Shame on any one of you who does this.

You know an eye for an eye doesn't make for stereo vision.

Anyways, pay no heed to me, I'm just a cranky curmudgeon and probably not indicatve of most of the posters in the Trek XI board.

Didn't that report from AICN a few months back make reference to footage seen of a ship with an "over and under" nacelle layout? Looks like what we see of the "USS Kelvin" here, whether that's a deflector dish at the front of the dorsal nacelle or a fancy "spinning turbine" bussard collector.

What exactly looks silly and out of place to you, and in what way?

Exactly. I'm not sure where all this "one nacelle" business is coming from...
