Why?Now I’m even more convinced that they will be the ones tapped to reboot Star Trek.

I wouldn't call 15 years latter an immediate 'Sequal" and practically non of the TL characters are in it. So not a direct sequal they were trying to make. But I get you.
Those kind of deals are made all the time. There’s nothing in this situation to infer or imply the Duffers are being brought aboard for Trek, especially when Kurtzman’s contract hasn’t run out yet.The deal is for television and features.
Thought I saw an article about the film and TV sides being treated as one property.I wonder where this leaves TV Trek - one continuity or two separate strands?

Star Trek, which has not been in theaters since 2016, has largely been overseen by Alex Kurtzman with a lengthy list of Paramount+ series. Execs said that Trek would be looked at holistically rather than siloed off between different parts of the company, such as film and TV. “We’re going to make sure those conversations are happening together so that we can do what’s best for the brand as a whole,” said film co-chief Dana Goldberg.
I guess the landscape is vastly different to when Berman was producing a movie every few years betwwen seasons of Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise? I.e. Marvel, Star Wars
FTFYIsn’t Stranger Things all about 80s nostalgia? So they’d be perfect for aTNGTMP revival.![]()
They can buy out the rest of the Kurtzman contract. No, it wasn’t me.I saw someone post a comment on that article with the same sentiment involved, comparing this to the Benioff and Weiss deal over at Netflix.
Was that you, by chance? Because it’s the only other time I’ve seen anybody reach this conclusion.
Yeah, that ain’t happening. They can buy out the rest of the Kurtzman contract.
Vulture.com said:The Duffer brothers, creators of Netflix’s marquee hit Stranger Things, are reportedly leaving Big Red for Paramount, per Puck’s Matthew Belloni. The fact that Netflix does not want to put movies in theaters is reportedly “the deal-breaker” for the Duffers.
Paramount is now owned by David Ellison’s company Skydance, and the TV division is headed by former Netflix executive Cindy Holland, who was fired from Netflix in September 2020.
Why would they bother to buy out Kurtzman's contract when they could just sideline him? They can buy out the rest of the Kurtzman contract. Money doesn’t matter to David Ellison since his father is worth more than the entirety of the Walt Disney Company.
Also, it’s just a guess. I obviously don’t know for sure what is happening. I also don’t really have a good feeling about this merger. New owner drunken sailor spending is never the answer.
