Trek's future according to Paramount's new owners...

Are they even FANS? :shifty:

Fandom Menace: "Help us, Duffer Brothers. You're our only hope."

#StarWars

Let's hope. Even though I enjoyed the Sequels, we all know what happened when JJ makes Star Wars and he's a huge fan. Not so much with Star Trek, and ST09 was a great succes because of that.

Now I’m even more convinced that they will be the ones tapped to reboot Star Trek.

I saw someone post a comment on that article with the same sentiment involved, comparing this to the Benioff and Weiss deal over at Netflix.

Was that you, by chance? Because it’s the only other time I’ve seen anybody reach this conclusion.

The deal is for television and features.
Those kind of deals are made all the time. There’s nothing in this situation to infer or imply the Duffers are being brought aboard for Trek, especially when Kurtzman’s contract hasn’t run out yet.

Thought I saw an article about the film and TV sides being treated as one property.

You did, yeah.

Star Trek, which has not been in theaters since 2016, has largely been overseen by Alex Kurtzman with a lengthy list of Paramount+ series. Execs said that Trek would be looked at holistically rather than siloed off between different parts of the company, such as film and TV. “We’re going to make sure those conversations are happening together so that we can do what’s best for the brand as a whole,” said film co-chief Dana Goldberg.

I guess the landscape is vastly different to when Berman was producing a movie every few years betwwen seasons of Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise? I.e. Marvel, Star Wars

Plus, there are few series pitches in the works - so we could get a couple of seasons a year as per normal with a movie every few years. Works for me!

They can buy out the rest of the Kurtzman contract. Money doesn’t matter to David Ellison since his father is worth more than the entirety of the Walt Disney Company.

Also, it’s just a guess. I obviously don’t know for sure what is happening. I also don’t really have a good feeling about this merger. New owner drunken sailor spending is never the answer.

I don’t see a world in which Kurtzman remains in control of the Trek franchise moving forward, regardless of the contract. New management, new vision.

It’s pure speculation, but my armchair feeling is that they will keep Secret Hideout on a reduced package, eliminating the exclusivity contract in order to allow other production arms to work on the franchise - moving much of it completely in-house - while giving Kurtzman a spot for a slice of it on a two-to-three-year contract.
