Trek Returning to TV in 2017!

Interesting.

Some quick thoughts at least from my perspective.

"Renegades" gets featured as part of the video clips running as part of the discussion. Not sure what to make of that, but nice plug.

Apparently Sandro has a little more insight as it he states it will be the same universe we have seen for the last 49 years (slight paraphrase). Not Kirk and Co, but still set in the same universe. Given the lack of specifics from CBS press releases, that strikes me as a bit of speculation.

Quite a fun video. Thank you for sharing!

God I hate the term Trekie - at least as it's used in interviews like this. F'ing dill hole CNN interviewer should spend time reviewing hair care products.

Decent little interview. No real new info, though. Unless you take that as confirmation of Prime Universe but I don't think it really was.

edit: having just joined the forums I have to say I've never seen a whinier bunch of fans lol. even a harmless little interview gets shit on right away :D

Considering the man being interviewed is not connected with CBS, yeah. Anything he says is only his speculation.

Disagree about Trekkie. That's what I am. "Trekker" is just for self-loathing Trekkies.

Totally agree about the hair care. The guy on the left should at least bother to comb his hair after he wakes up and goes to the studio. Yuck.

Lol I see what your doing, trying to reduce things like basic logic on taste.

Aside from the fact that the above isn't quite a real sentence, what you're doing is confusing your ability to construct a logical sequence that you find satisfactory with being right.

You understand the difference?

Logic proceeds from premises. Choose flawed premises and you can logically reach preposterous conclusions.

You choose ridiculous premises.

Most everything you're disputing, BTW, is a matter of taste. :techman:

Humanity's future is watching.

Enterprise was cancelled just as it was getting good. Ratings had dropped, and they weren't generating enough interest to keep it going. Frankly, a new series should not take 3 seasons to "get good" - there were a lot of poor episodes in the earlier seasons, and it simply wasn't enough to keep going.

Continuity porn a good episode does not make. Season 4 had some decent story arcs but the majority was just reference after reference after reference to Trek past.

Yup, Enterprise was expensive. Their ratings weren't high enough to keep going. It did not take 3 seasons to "get going", ENT seasons 1&2 have less "duds" than TNG or DS9 and probably Voyager. All trek series took awhile to get their legs... but that wasn't allowed for Enterprise. The steady drop in viewership following season 5 of TNG finally took it's toll.

I agree with this completely.

I found the stories in season four to be more compelling than those of previous seasons, but the constant callbacks got a little nauseating. Surely there must be a way to tell good, exciting stories that don't rely on an encyclopedic knowledge of the whole Trek canon in order to understand.

Kor

They did "pay homage" too much... but they were in a damned if you do, damned of you don't area there.

What is forgotten is new again.

On Enterprise, I wish they had stayed on Earth for the entire first year to show the remnants of struggle to become one civilization, deal with the Vulcans, refine warp drive through failures to get the Enterprise ready for launch, and educate themselves about what was known of what lay ahead...

Exactly what Braga wanted to do and I agree. We should have seen more of the struggle to make it to the stars. ... I believe it was the network that wanted the ship in space right off the bat.

"Measure of a Man" is a certainly a standout episode, but I also like "Where No Man Has Gone Before," "Pen Pals," "The Big Goodbye," "11001001," "The Arsenal of Freedom," "Unnatural Selection," and "The Royale," are all favorite S1 & S2 TNG episodes.

Also "Heart of Glory", "Conspiracy", "Skin of Evil", "Contagion", "Time Squared" and "Q, Who" are all excellent episodes.

I love all seasons of trek.

Currently watching/just watched many of these on whatever channel is broadcasting TNG right now.

:D I don't even know the channel anymore, I just record it and when they pop up in my list I watch them. :D

I prefer "Trekkie" too, but I haven't watched the interview so I can't judge how it was used in this context.

Lol ironically because the interview style isn't completely dismissive of this is gonna suck camp.

They even mentioned they got the work kurtzman did on transformers.

EDIT: Honestly I think the nutrek is a divisive issue.

The movie criticism despite claims to the contrary isn't gonna disappear when a guy associated with the movies is hand picked to lead the team.

Trekkie, trekker.... blah, blah.

Neither bother me.

But true, this guy hasn't seen a comb or brush in a few weeks :D

I don't think anyone is asking the issues to disappear. They just don't bother everyone in the same way. As Leatherface put it, "it's a matter of taste."

It's too early for me to be in the "it's gonna suck" camp because I don't know. Optimism is my state of mind when it comes to entertainment. Sounds like some other franchise I know
