Both current 'going concerns' in the Trekverse are set in the 'future' of the known timeline. Across both shows, two main characters are revisits of previous shows.
Picard and the 3rd season of Discovery are doing just that. One is set 20 years after Nemesis, the other 800 years or so.
Hey look on the bright side....you'll have a whole new set of episodes to arbitrarily rate "1" in the forum polls. Good hunting!!
Such incredible vision, truly worthy of the Roddenberry name!
And even with "Discovery" rebooting, the main character is still related to Spock, Sarek and Amanda.
And now they're making a third, this time with Spock!
I more interested in what they do with Pike and Number One. Spock is just gravy.
Spock is just a Lieutenant at this point, anyways. Almost all of his breakthroughs in understanding himself and in personal growth won't happen until TOS and afterwards. It's not like they can do much with Spock, anyways, at this point in the timeline and not incite a reaction that will make the look of the DSC-Era Enterprise seem like a minor shrug and a yawn.

I didn't get any sexual tension.I think they bonded as friends and Spock found a mentor.I have a feeling they're going to make Pike, Number One and Spock the Big Three of Strange New Worlds.
But Number One and Spock have similar personalities... so will they have an antagonistic relationship and disagree like Spock and Bones? Or based on the Short Trek, will it be more of an underlying sexual tension? Or both?
As far as Spock goes, we know the writers are going to step in shit and outrage the canon folks probably starting with episode one.
A true fan wouldn't wait until episode one.As far as Spock goes, we know the writers are going to step in shit and outrage the canon folks probably starting with episode one. I
They really haven't done anything like that in the past, so it seems unlikelyWouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if it's announced that he's really the product of a secret Section 31 experiment or is really a Romulan or something and Sarek and Amanda aren't his real parents.

And "Discovery" going to the future isn't the same as a series with new characters and humanity from that future. I would have been far more patient with "Discovery" if it was a show set post-Voyager from the start. Instead they felt some strange need to set it in the 23rd century and make the lead related to Spock and went for cheap nostalgia (we have tribbles and Gorn and the mirror universe, people know what those are!), more interested in pop culture references than expanding on the Trek universe.
They already gave Spock a human sister, lifelong visions of a Red Angel and snuck a full-on mental breakdown into his backstory. That alone makes what he went through in 79 TOS episodes look like a piece of cake.Spock is just a Lieutenant at this point, anyways. My point exactly! Why they have this need to try to overshadow TOS is beyond me!!!
