Not a bad idea, but I prefer the hardcopy. I can wait a few more days.

I'm about 70% of the way through and I'm confident in an "above average" mark for the book. It may even go up depending on the ending.

Page 58 read. Message understood. :)

I've had trouble really getting into the book due to time constraints this week... work, car problems, family in town, babysitting for across the street neighbor who had to go to the hospital, etc. Thus, I am embarassed to say I just finished page 63 at lunch today.

That being said, I am noticing some oddities, none bad, mind you... though I have to admit to wondering who was in my brain last night when I read the use of the term 'action stations' instead of the more Trekishly flamiliar 'battle stations'. In my little alternate dream-universe, the UESPA has Sublieutenants and mans Action Stations when the lights go red. :)

Any chance of a Sublieutenant or two later on in the book?

Please elaborate when you have time. I'm curious to find out what oddities you mean. Style, plot, character, something else?

I'm sorry, but no. However, there's a Senior Chief Petty Officer later in the book. :)

I don't want to spoil too much for the review, but at the moment, the biggest thing that takes some getting used to is what I guess I can best describe as the 'snippets at a time' engagement of the various stories. It's kinda the literary equivalent of a quick-take... it feels a bit odd in pacing when compared to other recent Trek books, which is probably why it feels so odd and is taking me some getting-used to.

That's the best description I can come up with, anyway.

How about Mr. Kyle on the intership saying, "Action Stations! Action Stations!"?

Just (well, about two hours ago) finished the book and I'm officially giving it an outstanding :bolian:

I like the way everything came together in the end and I put this book second in line as the ultimate McCoy book after Provenance of Shadows.

I'll be posting a fuller review, with spoilers, on my blog in the next day or so (now that I'm posting to it more regularly).

Found the book (FINALLY) and bought it last night. Won't have a chance to read it for a while, but I'm wondering if there's been any mention of the fact that Mr. Mollmann's last name is misspelled on the cover? Will it be fixed on the next print run?

^ BTW the Kindle version (and I guess all eBook versions) has the name wrong, too. That should be something that S&S can fix without much hassle, shouldn't it?

It's something I was told was in fact actually fixed. :sigh: Thanks. I'll look into it.

I have to confess this story isn't working for me. About a 1/4 through and it DRAGS. Putting it aside, but I'll try it again later.

I bought the eBook on release day (August 30th), so there's a chance that it has been fixed after that.

ETA: Just downloaded the excerpt from amazon and it has the correct name on the cover, so I guess it was fixed after release day.

Sometimes I'm philosophical, sometimes I'm intensely aggravated. Isaac Asimov's name was spelled Issac Asimov on an early novel, and he turned out all right, though.

Somehow I've never had that problem. As another person with two occurrences of double letters in my surname, I'm used to seeing my name misspelled in various circumstances (and I'm so used to saying "two Ns, two Ts" after giving my name), but they always seem to get it right on my books and stories.

^I think the problem with Steve's name is that Mollmann looks wrong to the english speaking eyes, and it seems that the name was "corrected" very late in the process, as it was spelled right on all the prerelease cover pics available online, but at the last minute someone someone must have thought "Mollmann can't be right, I will fix that"

I doubt there will be a problem if his books ever get translated to German. :)
